he came in - but she wouldnt get up - as you said.
I thot it odd.
It looked as if the Gulf tower falcon nibbled the shell to help chick hatch.
I thot it odd. Glad you mentioned that.
Last year Hope was stressed.
Remember, her mate died - she snagged Terzo.
Didnt she have 3 eggs by Erie - and one by Terzo?
We do strange things when stressed
Hi Shepard. I think the vocalizing back and forth was her talking to Terzo. He came in to relieve, but since hatch is so close, maybe it was to say, "get us some food - times close".
As for the stress, yes - I agree. I think that she appears much calmer to me this year. And last year, if I remember correctly, on one egg, she literally ripped the egg shell open once it pipped, not just nibbling on the shell. I know that they often eat the shell after hatch, or once the shell is opened completely, they may move one of the halves off & eat to replenish calcium. The concern is if they prematurely pull the chick out of the egg, there may be the possibility of open blood vessels which can cause the chick to bleed out. I know there are some on the board who have information regarding this because it happened at another site several years ago. Prior to that post, I did not know it would be an issue.
PS.. Just noticed, I think Terzo is on eggs now - 3:00pm ET.
