11:50 am - Iris with the owlets. The older sister is on the left looking at the cam. Baby brother is barely visible, huddled between his sister and Mom. It is cold today in Minnesota. Temps in the upper 40's. So, Iris is staying close by to cuddle.

Here's a video from yesterday of Rusty feeding his son, the younger owlet. He is quite a devoted Dad and visits the kids any chance he can get...if Iris doesn't chase him away. :teehee: Video courtesy of International Owl Center

11:15 am - Little Principio (PNoob), the adopted owlet all alone. Secundo left the adjacent balcony yesterday at 6 pm for a holly tree down below. Secundo stayed there precariously in the wind until dusk, when he took flight to the roof of a neighbor's house across the street. Mr. T dropped off food for little PNoob last night.

Late yesterday afternoon, Iris decided to take a break from the kids and snooze with Rusty....giving the kids some independence.

PRIMO COMES HOME AFTER FLEDGING.

Storms swept through OKC Friday night, making hunting difficult. PNoob received one small prey item from Dad and was hungry by last night, food begging as soon as it got dark. Primo, also hungry zeroed in on PNoob's calls, arriving at the nest last night at 8:27 pm. She probably figured little Noobs was going to get a food delivery and wanted to be there for it. Food deliveries were good last night for both owlets. It appears that Primo has decided she likes the food service and shelter of the house (windy and cold today - temps in the 40's). as she stayed all day today in a cuddle puddle with her baby sibling.

4/29, 9:43 pm - Primo comes home (on the rail). PNoobs in the planter (last night).

2:15 pm - Today. Primo up against the house and PNoobs in the planter.

Ever since Primo came home the night of April 29th, she has remained at the nest, keeping little Principio company for the past 3 days. We are all hoping that this oldest sibling will wait until Principio fledges before leaving the nest again. She appears to be looking out for her youngest sibling, who stays close and even ducks behind Primo when pedestrians pass by. Secundo is doing well off the nest - spotted on a neighbor's roof.

Principio was felt to be about 12 days younger than the older owlets. Primo fledged 11 days ago, so Principio, who is male is probably ready to go any day now.

Isn't that amazing Shep? Yesterday, Primo was doing fly-abouts, but always returned to the nest balcony to hang with little Principio. It's so touching. The 1st 2 days back, Primo stayed put on the balcony. Yesterday, she started doing fly-abouts...maybe showing the little adopted owlet how it's done? When she leaves, Principio does hop flaps and did a good flight over the balcony yesterday evening. His eye was on the adjacent balcony, but didn't have the nerve to go. That's where Secundo fledged to. I have a feeling that once Principio goes, Primo will follow. Today may be the day. What a precious family to watch. :15heartbeat:

:sum9: The little adopted owlet, Principio fledged early this morning a little before 4 am. Empty nest balcony this morning and empty nest syndrome for me. Good luck little ones!

After Principio fledged, he was seen later that morning at a neighbors house. The kids have not been seen since. It's amazing that Primo kept returning to the nest to keep Principio company until this youngest adopted owlet fledged and could join the family. Primo has not been back to the nest since Principio fledged. That's love. :15heartbeat:

:thankyou Loza. They really are cute at this stage. I noticed that Sheldon likes to instigate his older sister...bothering her while she tries to sleep...pulling on her tail. :teehee: They are so adorable. Last night they had severe thunderstorms with torrential rain. Both kids were hunkered down in the nest...their place of security.

Rusty and Iris

I opened the cam yesterday and was surprised to find Sheldon perched next to Rusty. It appears both owlets fledged mid to late week. Sequoia was first, but her fledge was more of a flop to the ground. Sheldon did better, but he also did not get much lift and fluttered the ground. However, his perch yesterday next to Dad, meant that he is now flight-worthy.

6:38 pm yesterday - Rusty (left) with his son, Sheldon

Video of Sequoia being silly on Thurs, May 18th. Sheldon did not know what to make of her and took a defensive posture...lol. Courtesy of The International Owl Center
