Sherco's getting ready, too, huh? There are about 5 other nests that the falcons are staying in their nests & are acting like they're ready!

Nice to see the two at Black dog. Isn't this the nest where they had to fix that smokestack problem?

I'm pretty sure it is, ljames--they were going to remove the box, then came up with another solution. (I think they moved the box.)

They put a screen over it I'll try and find where I read it

OK here it is Nora in IA. from RRP posted

Black Dog, Burnsville, MN

Yeeehaaaa!!!!!!!!! Just posted in "what's new":
10/15/2009
Great news on Blackdog! Xcel Energy decided to put a screen over the
natural gas stack to prevent peregrines and other birds from entering and
getting trapped. We are so pleased - this will be an expensive endeavor,
and while Xcel has been a great partner in peregrine recovery
and management, we didn't expect this! They will be putting the screen
up sometime in January.

Thanks for finding that info, Kittenface! I'm very glad they were willing to go through the expense in order to continue hosting a peregrine nestbox & keeping the birds safe! Hurray for Exel! :wave :party2:

Yes I love that Xcel put that up at Blackdog and out of their own pocket to boot
And yes sadly RRP thinks Red Wing has lost their female Husker to a new Falcon that
isn't banded they don't know if she is just gone away or what, there was
a battle but no news at all

Oh no! Husker was born in Omaha, and her father is Zeus. Her mother was Winnie, and Husker was one of 5 born in 1998, so she would be 12.

From RRP What's New

3/20/2010
There was a territorial battle between falcons at Red Wing, and we're not sure whether the falcon is still Husker. Her band was a faded red over black, so if we can get a glimpse of her band, it should be fairly apparent
3/23/2010
Nora emailed me with photos from Red Wing. Her photos were of an unbanded male, and we believe we have a new female there as well.
