Breakfast at UB

We have some babies facing the wrong direction for their breakfast! Turn around little ones.........

The little one not under Dixie doesn't seem to like cuddling! Is that okay?

I think Dixie may be a little warm... her beak is open, but she's not panting. She's been trying to protect(cover/shade) the chicks, and they have their little beaks open - ready to eat and very frisky (adorable). Mom seems to be looking for Dad - maybe she's expecting (hoping) for a meal.

After a lot of chick shuffling, Dixie is panting now - but not nearly as bad as we've seen in the past.

I'm not liking the way the chicks have been behaving today.

The weather here is cloudy, somewhat muggy but with a cool breeze. I am not trying to be an alarmist but it seems the chicks are lethargic. I just don't know what to think at this point but I am hoping that the chicks get up and move.......

I just looked on weather.com 60F with 52% humidity in Buffalo.

While the vid is processing, my thoughts..

The munchkin reminds me a lot of the youngest at Columbus. Non assertive (at first), not as steady, and it only took a few bites before it would zonk out. It never had the beginning of a full crop like the others...Also, Durand, like Dixie, had to adjust bite sizes...which didn't always happen. I noticed the same with Dixie. Some of the beak to beak passes didn't always result in food transfer to the baby. Dixie did appear to make the effort to bypass the bigger kids to get to the baby. Well, you can judge for yourself.

The feed was already in progress when the cam finally loaded for me..

One other thing...Hopefully, as this baby gets stronger and steadier (like the Columbus baby) it will figure out it needs to make its way to the front and persist. Not only have the two smaller Columbus kids figured this out, but they have no problem knocking over the 2 bigs to get what they want...plus, Durand has figured out her feeds need to be longer...

Chicks having a nap with mom nearby. It appears like one baby was pooped upon. The little has found some feathers for a pillow! They are all looking good. Nice feed pictures Sky.

Dixie and Babies are PANTING this morning. Hot with that direct sun on them this morning.

Dixie is trying her hardest to shade the kids.

I was happy to see a feed a bit ago because the babies seem to be hungry (no crop). It wasn't a big prey but at least it was something!!! Go get more Dixie!!!!!!!
