Mom is feeding them, baby is trying to get food but not standing. In my humble opinion, there is a problem with this chick. I hope they get it out and get it checked out.

Nest Updates

Small Chick to Be Taken to Veterinarian

Over the past few days, it has become apparent that the smaller of the falcon chicks is not doing as well as the others. This afternoon, staff from the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries will be removing this chick from the nest box. The chick will be taken to a local veterinarian for triage. If/ when the veterinarian determines that the chick is in stable condition, it will be transported to The Wildlife Center of Virginia.

Please note: There will be a temporary disruption in the camera stream while our staff are out on the building ledge to retrieve the chick.

He's on his way to my vet who does my rehab birds, she is awesome. Maybe he just needs some fluids to get him back on track.

Predators and prey don't mix, I stick with little ones in the summer, except of course when I get a cutie kestrel at the end :). I'm really hoping they can put him back tomorrow, otherwise he will go up to the wildlife center.

sgb, to answer your earlier question, being wet and cold is not good. I take water bowls out of cages at night because wet and cold will kill little birds. In fact, I always have a few who commit suicide that way, if they aren't right and older and I forget, they will sit in a bowl overnight and die. They must not like my efforts to keep them alive, which I've been known to do for long periods. Anyway, an upper respiratory infection could easily happen from that. The balance issue is a little worrisome on this one, I know we've seen some that wobble and fall. I always chalk it up to slow development birds. I get quite a few of those too.
Thinking all positive thoughts for this wee one.

Thanks Barb!! This baby was very wet and upside down for a very long time the other night...I'm sure you saw all the prior posts about that night...He's been declining ever since...of course, it could just be a coincidence...I'm just so happy they have him. Staying positive here...and even if he can't be helped, at least he'll be safe and taken care of!!

Now, let's talk about you and your bowls of water....YIKES!!!!
