I saw an adult fly by my Rhodes Tower window earlier this week. Couldn't tell which one since it zoomed by so fast!

Very soon they will move on to the next part of the Rhodes Tower refurbishing, they will be adding scaffolding around Lynn and Pearl alleys so they can inspect the exterior of the building. No construction is starting yet, though.

Good morning Everyone - it seems so quiet downtown now - the only activity that I notice is the recordings of the falcons. It might be because I don't see that well too that now one seems to be around. Very depressing actually. On a lighter note - the weather here is going to be wonderful with a high in the low 80's with a chance of rain this evening.

I really appreciate the reports about the renovation of the Rhodes tower - thank you very much. Please keep us informed when possible.

Dear SGB - I totally feel your pain - at least you experienced the falcons even if it was in your dreams - it is so very quiet downtown - the only sound I ever hear is the falcon recording. What will happen to the falcons? What will happen to the peregrine falcon program now that Donna is gone?

Has any one seen a falcon lately?

I get so sad when I think about them all Durand, Spark and Aries and my all time favorite chick Zoom! And I miss looking in on the nest. It was a part of my daily routine; a very good routine indeed!!!

:girlsad3:

PS Of course I love all of the chicks but Zoom was the first chick I watched develop.......

Depressing doesn't even begin to cover it. It's like I lost my best friend. Don't know if I'll ever see Durand again.

Since we have no other sources of news, I’ll just keep posting whenever I see a falcon! Today I saw one falcon out my window. I think it was Durand because she was quite large. She had prey in her talons. She swooped by once and then turned around and went the other way.

The Rhodes Tower construction has already started. For about two weeks there were workers outside our windows examining things and doing some drilling. Their platforms are suspended from the top of the building so i imagine they’ve put up falcon deterrents by now. Wouldn’t be good if Durand was dive bombing the workers.

Still, I’m glad I saw her today - good to know she’s still around even with the construction!

:11turkey: Woo hoo...that is great news! Thank you ccollin13. I understand from SGB that the nest box was removed from the Rhodes Tower very shortly after the cams went down. There are other boxes set-up and DOW is monitoring the situation to see if the falcons choose a particular box, so they can set-up a more permanent cam arrangement. It's nice to know that the falcons have not moved out of the territory even though their favorite box is gone. This is hopeful.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! :1turkey:

Update I got from my office today regarding the Rhodes Tower construction:

"Pedestrian protection around the building is currently being constructed. It will occur after normal business hours, and it should not interrupt any pedestrian traffic on Broad Street, Pearl Alley, and Lynn Alley during the day.

COTA has relocated their bus stop that was directly in front of Rhodes Tower to a point further west on Broad Street. The bus stop is now located just west of High Street, in front of the One Columbus Center located at 10 W. Broad Street.

Protective netting has also been installed on the 41st floor to discourage the peregrine falcons from nesting at Rhodes again next spring. This is necessary to ensure the safety not only of the construction workers on the tower, but also the falcons. The nest box has been relocated to the 31st floor of the Riffe Center in an effort by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to rehome the falcons away from the Rhodes Tower project. So far, it appears that the relocation effort is working. We should know more in the spring as they prepare for nesting season."

The 31st floor of the Riffe is actually all conference rooms. Next time I'm over there, I may poke around. Don't tell anyone, though :)
