This is bad I just don't have it in me to turn it on, I just can't watch today I prayed things would be ok but I guess everywhere can't always have a happy ending just because we watch them, I just keep thinking if I would have emailed him yesterday but I always feel like I'm bothering people and they don't take me serious
Did that make any since? I'm already bawling and I've only been awake up an hour

I just had a peek. I am so sorry. HOpefully someone checks it out and can save one.
I thought they would be able to self feed if they are that old.

Great horned Owls only predators are other Great Horned Owls .So this is strange

I have to go out for quite a bit. I will check back when I get in. Palm Sunday today and I will say a few extra prayers.

Sorry I am not much help today.

I might call him back this afternoon but I think it is to late.
:-( :-( :-( :-(

But I do have news on the Osprey cam Jazzel.

He says if the female hasn't laid eggs before he gets back he
will try and put up a new cam for them at the new nestsite.

I saw that Annie...
If I make another phone call to the gentleman he will think I am a nutjob.
Wish he could get someone from a rehabb or rescue group to help us make
sure the 2nd one is ok, which I don't think so... :-(

WELL I GOT MY RESPONSE FROM EMAIL
Jannice

It does appear that one of the baby owls has died. The parents were in the trees early morning. The nest is 85 feet up in a tall pine tree and lift equipment would have to be brought to the site. We probably could get the surviving baby owl but the N. C. Wildlife officials and Federal Officials will not let us interfere with mother nature. Guess we will have to wait and see how this plays out.

Thanks for your concern.

Jim Teachey

It is difficult to understand why Mom don't feed the owlets any more, otherwise would'nt well the smallest one died? Or has the little one mayby been sick then and thatswhy been not able to feed self. I never have seen the 2nd one either been feeding her self - doing anything else as holding tight each others after Mom has not been seeing any more.

I just cannot understand this not interfering with nature. If I go for a walk in nature and see an animal or bird in distress , I do not leave it, I take it to rehab or shelter.

what is the matter with them. Man has interfered so much by clearing of territories and pollution etc. I am sorry and I know there a lot out there that disagree with me, but when we see it help it. there are a lot in distress we do not see, so help what we do see.

I do not know about down your way but I know here ,we are concerned about the fate of our owls.

Enough ranting. I know everything cannot turn out the way we want it all the time, but help what you can.

Off to pray now. HOpe for the best outcome :bonnet: :bonnet:

I think Rob was very clear in his reply that if a nest is failing from natural causes it's usually best to let nature take it's course. But, in a high profile situation (a nest with a cam) for the positive public relations impact, it would justify a rescue. Conservation awareness is very important, and this is a good way to open some eyes.

This cam was set up for ospreys and because it has no light for night viewing, when the owls are active, it's very hard to know what has been the problem. Also this is not an ideal nesting site for owls, it's very open to the weather and it, as we all know, has been a very wet spring this year.

We should all be working a rescue data base for the areas around the cams we watch on the forum. If we had that we could get help quickly. SGB is going to add a links topic to the forum when she has time, this would be a perfect place to have important rescue contacts listed. Save the contacts everyone has found for this site, send them to SGB, and research contacts for other cams.

Good idea Jazzel...

and/or humans suffer if I thought I could help...

Getting caught up ... :-( I tried to find emails last night but didn't have much luck. It's hard to make out what I'm looking at right now. I see the older ones face - I guess it's sitting/laying over the other?

ETA - I think the only thing that would interfere here would be another GHO. Like we've seen at Valmont. Perhaps the female was hurt or killed by another female? It could be possible if they are saying they've seen both adults, maybe it's a different female. :think
