Update on Bloor Islington Place - (Etobicoke Sun Life)
In the early evening of April 30th, one of our watchers noticed increased activity to and from the nest ledge by our resident pair and some agitation by our female during these appearances. The next morning a new female was spotted on the web cam several times indicating that a change may have taken place. What was confusing was that Aria was also being seen on the ledge at least once or twice a day so we were uncertain as to who we were seeing and there were no visual or audible signs of any battles taking place.
On Friday one of our long time falcon watchers was able to read the bands of the new female while she was on the nest ledge.
This new female has been photographed several times over the past year in various locations across the GTA including Humber Bay Park. Her Black/Green band, 69/BC, identify her as D'ARCY who was hatched in 2016 at the Statler City site in Buffalo. She has a Toronto connection as her father Ralphie was born at our Toronto Sheraton nest site in 2014.
Aria has been seen over the past few days, including today, by ground watchers when she came in and was escorted from the territory by the new female so the situation may not be quite sorted out as of yet. However it is clear that Lucky has accepted D'Arcy as his new mate as they have been seen mating. D'Arcy is a very large female compared to Aria so we are hoping that no battle ensues between them and that Aria decides to move on without trying to engage her.
We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you posted if anything change .. Cheers, Lucie
