Who’s that in the Mangroves…?

By admin on January 11, 2016

32 is a male Osprey who was born in Manton Bay, to Maya and 5R(04), in 2011. This means that not only is his father the well-loved 5R, his grandfather is the legendary 03(97)! It is also very coincidental that 32 should be the Osprey we find in Africa, as he is the mate of our satellite-tagged female, 30(05), whom John, Paul and I will be visiting next week. Her wintering grounds are only 200km away from that of her partner. 2015 was the first year 30 and 32 bred together, after 30 had failed to find a partner for the previous two years. This also means, of course, that 32 is the father of the 100th Rutland Osprey chick! What an individual to have discovered on his wintering grounds in Senegal!

15 March 2019 - The wait is over...
a lot of calls have been coming in about the mystery ringed osprey... can confirm she's number 25,
the female that has been spotted flying around the area already! Sadly not 33...

Despite the wintery conditions and gales we are delighted to welcome
our resident breeding male osprey LM12 back to Loch of the Lowes.

He touched down after hours yesterday and wasted no time
in cracking on with some housework on the nest.
He was looking in fine fettle this morning, shaking off the snow
and has already had an early breakfast!

:7val: Laddie just arrived with a stick to place in the nest!! He's working on it now!! He went on to remove a piece of snow-covered ice near the bole and place it elsewhere, then dug out the bole a little. Sound is not in sync with the cam, it is delayed. But, beautiful sounding as usual with all the wildlife!

LF15 (aka Lassie) arrived back on the nest at 5.50pm on Saturday 23rd March, after LM12 (aka Laddie)
had been skydancing for an hour or so. He delivered a bit of fish but there was no nookie observed.
This will no doubt happen once the bond is truly resealed and Sunday 24th March may be a busy day.

:1val: Thanks for your pics and updates, Ferenz! I did not know that Lassie had returned. I had heard that Mrs. G had returned, but had not seen any pics. Lassie is currently on the nest preening. It is wonderful they have all returned safely to their nests for another season!! Always a sigh of relief!!
