Guess What Day It Is???? It’s the day Chad Steele announced on the Canton Ohio Peregrine Pair Facebook page that OUR CAM IS COMING BACK!!! I am over the moon! We have lost both of our pair from last year (Mystic and Maurice) and currently have two unbanded falcons, a feisty female Chad Steele named “Jade” and, batchelor #2, since Maurice lost the territory, “Clay”

:hithere: Just a little narrative of my visit with the new Canton Peregrine Pair.... I had a great time getting to know our new pair, “Jade”, the female, and “Clay”, the tiercel. They are both unbanded. I arranged to meet “Kat Bird”, the lady who is currently managing the Canton Peregrine Pair Facebook page up on the top floor of the parking garage near the nest box building. I got there first, and almost immediately Clay flew in, zipping back and forth and finally landing on the patio pole. He stayed there for a bit, but then Jade emerged from the nest box (does she have eggs?) calling to Clay while posing on the porch. Clay came right over and they mated. He then flew over to the communication antenna on the building next to the garage. Jade followed him over, and they both seemed to be enjoying the sun lit day. Jade and Clay really seemed to enjoy each other, spending a lot of the time I was there bonding, calling to each other, mating, and on one occasion Clay needed to chase off a turkey vulture. It was so much fun, too, meeting a fellow watcher, “Kat”, who is sure Jade already has at least one egg up there...I CANT wait for the cam!!
PS- “Kat” will be posting her pictures and narrative on Canton Ohio’s Peregrine Pair Facebook page. It would be an encouragement to her if some of you would “like” her photos..

:spring1: Hi Beth, all I know is that a couple weeks ago, it was announced on Facebook that the cam was “coming soon” . I check several times a day, and there seems to be progress being made, perhaps even down to one last connection to be completed, but no cam so far......

Canton Ohio's Peregrine Pair
21 mins ·
It is with heavy hearts that we share with you the passing of our anchor, our mentor, and our dear friend, Chad Steele.
He was the driving force for this page. He motivated so many of us towards nature. His love for birds, plants, and all of creation pulled us in to a universe that belonged to him. His orbit was strong.
For those of you that did not have the pleasure of meeting him, he was a wealth of bird knowledge. He was kind, compassionate, and devoted to his friends.
He shared what he knew with anyone that asked for his knowledge.
The purpose of the Canton page was always to preserve the history of this nest site. Chad’s beautiful photos and detailed narratives will remain as a tribute not only to Canton but also to man who devoted everything to this site.
To Chad’s husband Ray, and to everyone he touched during his brief but brilliant life, we offer our deepest sympathy.
My life has been enriched by his friendship and I know he has touched so many that follow this page.
As Chad told me early in our friendship, Look Up. So each morning when you hear the birds sing, each time you see a bird fly, pause for a moment and remember him and his contributions. We were so lucky that he graced our lives.

:loveshow: So Happy to be able to provide a little news about the Canton nest. The current peregrine pair, are Jade and Clay, both unbanded. We have had to wait for the eyases to grow big enough to be seen above the “lip” of the porch. And we have four busy eyases running a d flapping like crazy. Even better, one of the lawyers who moved into the suite of rooms near the nest box has become a fan, and she took 2 wonderful photos through a window. I just messaged her asking for permission to post them here- with a friend’s help. I’m hoping she agrees. Meanwhile Laurie Graber, the local DNR representative just messaged Ray that one chick fledged but came down by the police station, where it was found and was being kept safe. :nervous:

:hithere: As of Saturday, the 15th,all four juvies were accounted for, with the two boys having fledged and the two girls staying near the nest box. Monday morning when I visited all had fledged and were playing a frustrating game of hide and seek with me. On Wednesday, Clay, the father had 3 juvies over in the McKinley Park area for a bit of flight school. Jade remained on the Public Safety Tower watching a juvie devour prey two buildings over... :loveheart:
