My picture does show Hope did go to the front of the box, my thought was to get the food that she then fed them.

Just an FYI, while Terzo was on the eggs/chicks, an extra eggshell from an earlier hatch, I think came off an unhatched egg. Unless you guys saw it hatch, I didn't & I think she's picking at that old shell. FYI only... I was outside.

MW, I saw the third head stick up at the back. I went out to post and when I came back ... Hope had moved away from the chicks and it was no longer in the pile of the other chicks ... I saw faint pinkisk-looking legs under Hope's head and she was making tearing motions. Next she heads over to the chicks. I'm gone for now. I hope I am wrong about all of this ...

Sorry SWINWK... I wondered why Terzo was hesitant to leave.. I think I have my answer.

You know MW, I noticed his hesitancy to leave too. But, She brooded that new one a few minutes before she got up and I saw it. It was okay then. This was just before all of the above. I had just come out and praised her in a post and when I went back in after posting, I saw what I think I saw! Okay, I'm really gone now.

Bev thought one of the eggs was cracked a few days ago. Maybe that's what is was.

Shepherd, if it was a cracked egg, then Hope didn't have anything to do with its death.

Unfortunately, I kept coming out to post, but I thought I saw a live third chick raise it's head at the back of the chick pile, I came out to post, I went back in and saw what I thought were it's feet under her as she was making tearing motions at it (she had dragged it well away from the chick pile), I came out to post, then I saw her standing near the other two when I went back in and thought she might be feeding it to them.

I have been in here numerous times today, but never caught a feed. I think she thought Terzo was bringing prey in for a feed when he returned, but you could not see him on cam, because she was watching him and got up to come toward him, but he left. She got back on the chicks and within a couple of minutes she got up and that is when I saw the above events.

I know nothing of anyone seeing a cracked egg here previously.

SWINWK, guess you missed the reference to the cracked egg. In fact, on page 11 Terka got a capture of an egg that wasn't being incubated, that was pushed clear of the rest of the eggs. And Mom's feeding the dead chicks to the other chicks, its not uncommon. I would prefer to think that was what happened. :1val:

Unfortunately, I did see what I saw. But, I was seeing the events from the left view of the nest we see from the cam and the events can not be seen as clearly as from the right views of the stills. When I saw Terzos hesitancy to leave, I could not see the egg was hatching as Hope was blocking that. Poor Terzo! Kate shows what happened from the right view you see with the stills in slideshow and there is a written summary of events.

Did anybody see a feed here today, before this event? Wondering if she had even been able to feed them today and that is why she did what she did ... I remember in the past there was speculation of them having enough food or not when she does this. I know there is a problem and we don't have an understanding, but I still love her ...

I have been out, but I saw a cracked egg yesterday . someone else on FB saw it also and mention was made that maybe dead chick inside.

I will find this for you. I posted picture of cracked egg. will find it

I do not lose faith in Hope because , I know she does not kill her chicks. I tried to explain last t year what our biologist said, bu t it went on deaf ears.
