Jane, why do you bring your hummingbird feeder in overnight?

Came in and found a juvie playing with a feather on the ledge cam and he flew off just as I was leaving!

I was downtown from 7 to 8 this morning. Saw one of the boys on top of the column, and another juvie on the balcony railing. Thought that one may have been Red due to the large size. Am dealing with neglected grass today, but am likely to spin downtown tonight for a bit. To answer the question about the hummingbird feeder, I have problems with raccoons here. They've drained the nectar from the feeder several times, and I don't want it to be broken.

:teehee: Jane, I wasn't expecting that! But, growing up in Ky we had coons as pets over the years and they love their sweets ... popsicles! They held them by the sticks of course and were adorable watching them eat their special treats once in awhile. Also, my Daddy mixed a little honey in with their food prior to winter. Penny and Jenny (our last ones) lived to be 13 -14 years old.

Pretty sure it's Blue enjoying some down time on the fat part of the stick right now. Am wondering why you seemed puzzled by the adult falcon on the point, Terka. Did you not think it was Little Dad?

:5val: Lil Dad on the point and Niecey I assume on the point cam showing off her tail feathers. They are talking about something at intervals!! Saw 1 of the juvies flying near the point.

Lil Dad's here late tonight.

Oh, I see--he's not alone. There seems to be a kid on his cam. Note the tail feathers hanging down and the shadows from above.

Two of us were downtown tonight falcon watching. Little Dad was on the balcony railing the entire time we were there. Not a whole lot of flying by the juvies, who spent most of their time at various places on the Carson roof and sometimes on the nest ledge. At one point Niecey made a food delivery on the Carson roof. It was after 8:30 when the 4th one flew in from we THINK 333, and it landed on the ledge next to the stick. If there was another adult male in the area Little Dad was not impressed. I thought there would be juvies on the ledge when I got home, but I guess they flew up to the roof or top of the column.

Niecey, I didn't know that she fit up there? :egg16: Lil Dad is gone now.

Jane said in 1 of her reports that Niecey gets up there. I've not known nor read of 1 of the juvies being up there, I guess that's possible with a little skill. But, the conversation sounded like Niecey and Lil Dad to me! :egg7:

:1val: Thanks for your report tonight, Jane! Hope they continue to stay safe and do well!! Niecey has been on the stick since she left the cam.

I should have mentioned that Niecey was up on the wire to the cam last night when we left. I noticed her tail every now and then. She even gets up on the other cam in that same area and needs to sit in a hunkered position when up there. I've seen a juvie on one of those cams already, but it's not very common.

Thanks to SWINWK, there is a link to some incredible pictures on the Wilmington section of this forum. They were taken last Thursday evening at their annual rooftop falcon event on the garage roof down there.

Jane, I would give anything to be able to watch the falcons teaching their young mid-air food transfers, flying skills, etc.!! Just a few minutes ago, I saw Lil Dad on the fat part of the stick, when all of a sudden, Niecey flew to the front shield. This caused Lil Dad to go into the nest and then of course she dropped down and joined him. They were having a nice bonding session, when you could hear a noise causing both to look up and then exit the nest. I think Lil Dad is the only one that remains now, back on the fat part of the stick.

I had a report from a friend who works in a nearby building around 1:00 this afternoon. She saw three juvies on the Carson roof, and I think she meant the fourth was on the top of 333. Am planning to spin downtown after i have something to eat here. Not sure if anyone will be joining me or not, but that's fine. And right now Niecey is on the stick and Little Dad sitting in front of the scrape.

:7val: When I went in, I found Niecey in the nest and Lil Dad on the fat part of the stick and not a peep from either one. I became so focused on our unusual weather report, I did not notice Lil Dad leave and Niecey move to the stick, where she remains. They seem to be enjoying their down time here and it is well deserved!! I could hear a juvie crying in the distance and at 6:29 after looking upwards toward the skies, Niecey flew!
