:1snowman: The way she is mantling when I came in, I'd say Samson just brought her a fish! He went to a branch.

Jan 13, 9:13 AM
earlybird_AEF (Moderator): Good morning to all of our faithful viewers. It's turning out to be a beautiful day in the Hamlet. The fog is gone and the sun is shining. Samson has flown off for the moment but we currently have the lovely Gabrielle in the nest.
Jan 13, 9:44 AM
earlybird_AEF (Moderator): Samson delivers a fish for his lady at 10:43 am.

:1snowman: Yep, she's feasting now!

Jan 13, 9:50 AM
earlybird_AEF (Moderator): Samson steps up to Sunset branch and lets Gabrielle enjoy her meal.
Jan 13, 9:57 AM
earlybird_AEF (Moderator): Samson flies off at 10:56 am.
Jan 13, 9:59 AM
earlybird_AEF (Moderator): Gabrielle finishes her fish, saving the tail for last and moves up to Lookout Point.

:1snowman: And gone!

Jan 13, 10:48 AM
earlybird_AEF (Moderator): Gabrielle sends some warning vocals and jumps in the nest at 11:40 am as she sees something flying by too close for her comfort.
Jan 13, 11:02 AM
aka_AEF (Moderator): Good afternoon Hamlet Family! Thank you for spending part of your day with us. Gabrielle flew from the Sunset branch at 12:00.

Samson is turning out to be such a good provider. He has been so busy lately keeping Gabrielle fed, restoring the nest, and mating. This girl eats a lot, but she is a big eagle. She ate a whole squirrel in one sitting the other day. She mantles everything and squeees loudly like a young eagle when food arrives. I suppose her immaturity is showing. She is certainly vocal and quite loud. Two weekends ago, she was in a nearby tree while Samson was perched in the nest tree. She called out, and I am not exaggerating, once every minute for a good 3/4 of an hour before he flew off....lol. :hollaugh:

Since this nest is in northern Florida, I wonder if Gabrielle's egg schedule may be somewhere between the Southwest Florida nest (mid Florida) and the Berry college nest (northern Georgia). Given their behavior and how feedings and matings have ramped up, I am hopeful we will have an egg, but time will tell.

Gabby might be in labor, she's acting strange and pooped right in the nest!

Here we go!!!

EGG!! EGG!! EGG!!

:7val: OMG!!! IT'S AN EGG!!" :7val:

:7val: Congratulations Gabby and Samson :7val:

:rudolf: Tears are pouring, I can't help it!! :rudolf:

She was noticeably tired after. Samson was not present as he flew from Lookout Point at 6:10 and she went down to the nest 3 minutes later. Official time was 6:34! Maybe Daddy will slip back to the tree and nest later.

gretchen_AEF (Admin): MONDAY TUCK-IN; Gabrielle has her precious treasure all tucked below her. Welcome to the Hamlet Egg NE21! Samson flew shortly before Gabby went into labor this evening. He's likely in the LY and will return bright and early (if not before). Gabby is a natural. She rolled the egg immediately. She was eggshausted, as labor is, but she's doing a marvelous job. SED to her, Samson and Egg NE21 and all!

:flirty: Jan 13, 11:00 PM
jd_AEF (Moderator): Good early morning! It's the stroke of midnight on January 14, 2020 and this is the day that our sweet Samson will see and care for his very first egg. We are so blessed to have this amazing view as our couple learns to care for this gift they have received and will share with our very special Eagle family. Thank you Samson and Gabrielle for the joy you have brought to the Hamlet! See you all in the am!

2.13 am Gabrielle is up and rolling the eggs,
and she appears to be digging the nest bowl a little more to accommodate the egg.
She is doing an awesome job caring for her new treasure!

AEF NEFL Eagle Cam 1-13-20: Gabrielle Lays Her First Egg

American Eagle Foundation

The NEFL Bald Eagle nest has great cause for EGGSCITEMENT as tonight, at 6:43 pm EST,
Gabrielle laid her first egg! This is NE21, representing the 21st egg laid in the NEFL nest.
Incubation normally lasts 36 days,
and that means that we will hopefully have an eaglet on or around Feb. 18, 2020.

:flirty: I know I am watching for "her Samson"! I simply can not miss his reaction as he sees his egg for the first time!

Jan 14, 4:01 AM
jd_AEF (Moderator): 5:00 am Gabrielle is giving us another peek at the egg and she seems to be watching for her Samson

As of 6:45 nest time, there have been no wake up calls, no morning vocals. Gabby is quiet as a mouse!! :teehee:

Right after the IR went off, I started getting the usual COD here. Had to go to YT and watch the 4K to avoid.

:flirty: At 7:04, Gabby is finally vocal as Samson flew in. He alerted on arrival, then began working on the floor. Gabby got up at 7:07 for Samson to see his egg. She is very protective of it. He immediately walked closer to her, but her body is blocking my view of him and at 7:07:13, you can see his beak move toward the egg from under her. He stands and glances toward the egg several times. Then Samson calmly walks to the left side of the nest and up to a branch at 7:08. He flew at 7:23. Hoping he brings back a fish as that may be the only way for him to get near the egg. :teehee: Gabby is in "Momma Mode"!!

He arrives at 0800 to her vocals with a meal and she got up!! It's a squirrel I think and she mantles it. He stands stretching real tall and looks around, then to the branch at 8:01 while she eats. I have seen a large bird flying about a couple times this morning and wondered if that is why he alerted on his initial arrival today and why he just stretched so tall to look around.

At 8:30, she is still eating and he remains on the branch without ever making an effort to go to the egg. He seems to be sunning himself with his feathers puffed out and his wings out slightly and drooping well below the branch. (as seen from cam 1) He keeps glancing over to watch her eat.

Back to the YT 4K at 8:39, Gabby is finished eating and begins to feak. Samson flies from the branch to the nest near the egg at 8:40. She shockingly flew to where he had been on the branch. He begins aeration around the egg. I think she may have flown at 8:41 or moved to a different branch. Samson aerates and adjust himself and aerates and adjusts himself till finally at 08:45 he lies on his egg for the first time!!

As I leave at 0900, Gabby is further out on a branch and you can hear soft vocals from her on occasion and Samson remains on his egg!!

:1snowman: Both flew at 1:04. Announcement from Gretchen admin:

Jan 14, 11:48 AM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): CORRECTION: Gabrielle and Samson's egg until officially named will be referred to as NE22 (not NE21). NE represents the nest (Northeast FL), and 22 represents the total number of eggs laid at this nest since monitoring in 2008. Apologies for the confusion.

Jan 14, 12:22 PM
tweetie_AEF (Moderator): Gabrielle returns at 1:20 after allowing herself a little break.

:ohyes: Below is the link to the YouTube DVR for this site, if anyone wants to access it. It is nice to be able to scroll through hours of cam footage to see what has happened. It stores 12 hours of footage. The cams viewed on the AEF website do not support DVR, so having the YouTube DVR is a blessing. I just learned about this last night.

:15heartbeat: Hoping Samson will return to the nest tree tonight to sleep. Gabby has done an outstanding job caring for the egg as did Samson when he was on for awhile this morning. Maybe he'll start giving her more time off during the day in the future. Hoping when she took the short break off the tree earlier, that one or both of them were nearby to keep an eye on the nest.

Jan 14, 4:15 PM
otd_AEF (Moderator): At 4:35 Gabrielle rolled their egg and fluffed the nest. Rolled their egg again at 4:53. Samson arrived to the nest at 4:58. He flew at 5:07 and Gabrielle settles down to continue incubating.
Jan 14, 4:45 PM
babyhawk_AEF (Moderator): Weather report: beautiful warm day in the Hamlet, mid 70's now, low 60's overnight, nice for Gabrielle & Samson , high humidity, egg may be exposed a little more so it can breathe, very little breeze.
Jan 14, 4:48 PM
otd_AEF (Moderator): Gabrielle rolled and fluffed again at 5:41. We will for sure have an eagle with us for our 6:00 chat. Please join us.

:15heartbeat: Gabby is asleep and Samson did not come back to the tree tonight. And they expressed their concern for E14 from the Southwest Florida nest of Harriet and M15.

Jan 14, 7:32 PM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): TUESDAY TUCK-IN: We can clearly see Gabby has her precious cargo tucked and doing what she is wired to do. Samson delivered a squirrel for her this morning. She appears to still have a crop from that meal. Samson took duty for a bit today and is allowing his mate to take control. This new mom-to-be is being possessive of her egg and understandably so. Samson is a champ and let her have the night to herself. He flew and likely at the LY which is "vocal" distance away. He will surely arrive early am!
Jan 14, 8:26 PM
sharipf_AEF (Moderator): The entire NEFL cam and mod team would like to express its concern over the injury to eaglet E14 from the SWFL nest. We received the news in the middle of tonight's chat and it caught us all off guard as none of us had heard anything about it prior to chat. There was conflicting information given in chat and on the SWFL webpage and we were unable to confirm the correct information. (cont)
Jan 14, 8:26 PM
sharipf_AEF (Moderator): The last thing we would want to do to a fellow nest would be to give out false information and make things worse. We apologize if it appeared that we were not concerned. Everyone at NEFL sends their love and prayers out to little E14 and we sincerely hope this is resolved in the best way possible.

AEF NEFL Eagle Cam 1-15-20: Samson Takes His Turn Incubating

7.13 am

Although first-time parents, these eagles look so comfortable and competent in caring for their egg, while the treasure inside works hard to become "eagle."

In this video, Samson takes a turn incubating NE22.
