:flirty: 6:46 Ma arrived with a fluff delivery at 6:46 and Pa got off the egg, was vocal and flew. She went to the same place near the bowl that she aerated and caused a hole in the nest floor yesterday and worked some more on it. She went to the left branch at 6:52 and flew a minute later. Only to return at 7:06 with a stick in her right talon and possible fluff in the left. She again went to the left branch and flew at 7:22. Ma returns again at 11:35 and stood on the nest for 10 minutes or more, then she did a little aeration near the rails. She stood more, then seemed to notice some activity beyond the nest and kept a watchful eye before flying out at 12:10. Pa arrived at 12:33 to the left branch and then to the egg. Ma arrived to the nest at 2:27 with a humongous stick. Pa got up, then to the right branch and flew. Ma flew at 2:34. Pa returned at 5:10 to the left branch, then the egg interestingly for the night which is a little early for him.

:15heartbeat: At 6:39, Pa got off the egg and flew. Ma arrived to the nest at 6:53 and aerated an area near the bowl. She flew at 7:05. Pa to the left branch at 11:35 and then to the egg. At 12:11 as Pa was getting off the egg and vocal, Ma arrived to the nest. He flew. Ma started pulling on her left talons with her beak, then she watched something away from the nest, stood for awhile, then flew at 12:24. Pa arrived at 1:15 with a very nice fish and Ma landed in a few short seconds and she claimed it. Pa flew at 1:16 and Ma is eating the fish. By 1:27, she is gulping down the rest of the fish. She feaked, then stood looking around and finally flying out at 1:30. Pa arrived to the left branch at 3:23, then seconds later to the nest and over the egg. Ma arrived with a mammal of some sort at 4:50 in her right talon. Pa didn't get up right away as I guess he wanted to see what she had. He got up a minute later and walked up the left branch, then flew as Ma ate. She kept at it till 5:31 when she tried to down some and a minute later she does down the remainder. In a bit she feaks on the rails and flew out at 5:35 with Pa landing on the left branch at the same time, then on to the egg. He got off the egg at 6:57 and flew seconds later. He returned in a couple minutes and back to the egg. At 7:03 while still on the egg, he pulled up some remains of one of Ma's meals form earlier today, then took it to the rear of the nest and ate it. By 7:07, he is back to the egg for the night.

:15heartbeat: Their night went differently as Ma flew in at 2:55 this morning and Pa a couple minutes later went to a branch that is to the rear and left of the nest I believe. This was recorded in chat. When I came in this morning I first found Ma perched on the front right of rails with her head tucked and asleep. At 6:22 she was vocal. Then at 6:36 she stepped onto the nest and aerated near the bowl. A minute later it is Pa to the nest, then he went to the left branch and he flew. Ma flew at 6:45. Pa is back and to the egg at 6:48. He left at 8:43 and Ma arrived 5 minutes later with a stick that she initially placed to the left rail, but then decided to drop it in front of the bowl. A little aeration next and then she stood and looked around. At 9:23, Pa brought a fish to the rear and flew a minute later. At 9:30 Pa returns with fluff, then picked up the stick Ma dropped in front of the bowl earlier and placed it on the left rails. At 9:32 Ma thought his head was too near the fish and she snapped on him. He flew at 9:33 and Ma starts eating the fish a minute later. She downed the remainder with the tail at 9:41. She flew 7 minutes later. Pa returned at 11:25 and eventually to the egg. By 12:10 Pa is getting off the egg as Ma is arriving to the nest. He left in the next minute. She stood until 12:28 and then started aerating near the bowl to the point of a hole again. She flew out 4 minutes later. Pa returned at 2:07. And by 2:18 he is getting up as Ma lands. He took his time going to the left branch and out of view. Ma flew at 3:26 and Pa arrived 3 minutes later to do a little aeration and then to the egg. Ma with a humongous stick arrives to the nest at 4:51. Pa got off the egg a minute later and flew. She placed it to the left rails. She flew out at 5:33. There was a reset and I don't know if there was any activity between 5:45 and 6:45, but nobody is here at 6:45. Pa returns at 7:01 to the egg, but Ma shows up a couple minutes later and moves a stick. They got a little nippy with each other and Pa moved out of her way and flew at 7:05. She started aerating the bowl and around it, then flew at 7:07. Pa returned 5 minutes later and to the egg for the night. Berry has not set the cam clocks forward as yet.

:flirty: Ma arrived at 6:43 and Pa flew. She arranged sticks already on the nest and dropped one in the bowl. She went to the left branch and flew at 7:21. She returned 6 minutes later, ate a few bites she found on the floor, then flew at 7:46. She returns again at 7:50 and picks up the stick she'd dropped in the bowl and moves it. She flew 9 minutes after arriving. At 8:03, Pa returns to the egg. Ma returns yet again at 8:07, But Pa waited 5 minutes before he got up and flew. Ma flew at 9:06. Pa returns 4 minutes later and moves sticks he finds on the floor to the rails, then to the egg. Ma returns yet again at 9:21 and struggles with a stick, but finally places it on Pa. He got up and they move sticks and aerate. Pa flew at 9:25. Ma stood on the nest until flying at at 9:56, but returned in the same minute with a very large, multi-stemmed, branch and placed it to the rear rails. Then she stood looking around. The last I saw her was 10:57 and I am unsure when she left as I missed the activity till 11:53 when I found Pa on the egg. She arrived at 12:15 to the left branch and Pa got off the egg and went to the lower left branch. He flew at 12:16, then at 12:19 Ma turned around on the branch and flew without ever having gone to the nest. He returned at 12:32 and got on the egg. Ma arrived at 1:36 with a fluff load like no other I've seen and dumped it on the nest near the bowl! He flew at 1:39. She flew at 1:44. Pa returned at 2:28 to the egg. By 3:08 he's turned and is facing Ma's load of fluff while over the egg and is really enjoying picking through and bringing some close to his chest. She arrived at 3:31 and arranges the rail some. Pa left a minute later. She stood on the nest, then flew 7 minutes after Pa left. Pa returned to the egg at 3:55. He got up and flew out at 5:39, then Ma kinda crash landed on the nest a minute later and had to throw her wing out to catch her balance. She stood on the nest till flying out at 5:53. Pa returned to the nest and got over the egg for the night at 7:04. Berry has not set their cam times forward as yet.

:15heartbeat: Pa was on the egg all night and most of the morning. (Berry set the cam times forward 1 hour at some point this morning.) At 11:48, he got up and alerted and went to the left branch and flew. He returned at 12:01 and nibbled from the nest floor, then to the egg. Ma arrived at 12:31 and Pa flew. She aerated, then stood till 12:48 when she flew out. At 1:04, Pa arrived with a stick that he placed, then to the egg. Ma arrived at 1:30 with wet fluff. She aerated the bowl after Pa got up. He went to the left branch and flew. Then she stood till flying out at 1:45. Pa returned at 5:24 with a headless fish for Ma, but since she wasn't there, he ate all of it! He flew at 5:33. Pa returned at 6:24 and to the egg till Ma came in at 6:30 and he flew a minute later. She stood on the nest till 7:56 when she went to the left branch and flew. Pa flew in at 7:58 to the rear rails and stood a bit, then to the egg for the night.

:girlsad3: Poor Pa, his egg is broken!! He was acting strange and I looked back on the DVR. He got back over the egg after nibbling on the secretions from it. Going back in for times of what I saw.

Pa's egg explodes as he incubates!

During the 1:16 minute you can hear a POP and Pa jumps and throws his wings out. Then he looked around a little. At 1:17 he raises up just a little and looks under his breast at the egg. At 1:18 he raises up a little more and looked at the egg and got up and walked around the bowl. He gave out 1 vocal and some very soft chirps. No returns from Ma when he called out. He turned back to face the bowl and walked down in it, then nibbled on the secretions from the egg at 1:19. The egg is in pieces. He backed out of the bowl and stood looking down at the egg. He let out a couple of loud chirps and walked around the bowl and down in it at 1:20 and tried to roll the egg that did move, but no longer is rolling. He nibbled from the bowl around it a little and then settles over the egg at 1:21 as if nothing has changed. He remains lying over the broken egg as I leave at 2:27.

sad but I am glad he can move on now. remains of egg at top of bowl now. ma nibbled on some also, which is all a normal thing to do

I have been watching in silence but want to just again, show my deep respect for this pair. Even though mom knew long ago, she still came to nest when he left, even though she did not incubate or stay till he returned. natural instinct but it shows what a stong bond they have.

I am looking forward to seeing them at the nest now and maybe add some hay or a twig or two. :7val:

Heartbreaking. Maybe Pa can move on. Eagle calendar updated

:15heartbeat: Just a quick note that Pa is showing signs now of moving on even though he continued to incubate the broken up egg through the night. He just stopped in a few minutes ago and flew without ever going to the bowl. Will give report of this days activities as best I can later tonight.

:15heartbeat: With all due respect, I am not sure I will ever be able to agree with this, with what I saw and heard. From Berry on FB:

Berry College Eagles
2 hrs ·
It appears that at approximately 1 a.m. this morning, the weight of the male eagle caused the remaining nonviable egg to fracture. While remnants of the egg remain in the nest, they have been cleared out of the bole area.

I do not agree with them either . that egg exploded. This happens quite often.

:15heartbeat: Pa got off the egg and tried to roll, but it would not move at 6:38. He walked around the bowl and then backed up to the rear rails for a PS. He was vocal and moved a stick. He went to the bowl, aerated, settled again. At 7:44, Pa got up, went to the left branch and flew. Then he returned at 7:51 to the bowl and nibbled, to the rear of the nest and nibbled and finally back to the egg and settles. Ma arrived at 8:12 and Pa gets off the egg, aerates the edge of the bowl and to the right branch. Ma looks at the egg and then eats some of the broken pieces. She turned away from the bowl at 8:16, up to the left branch and flew. At 8:22, Pa returns to the left branch, stands there a bit, then down to the nest and egg and nibbles in the bowl. At 8:24, he went to the rear of the nest and back to the bowl nibbling. He removed a large portion of the egg shell with liner to the rear of the nest at the prey pile and eats some of it. At 8:33, he goes to the left branch, then to the bowl and lies in it. There are only small slivers of the egg shell in the bottom of it now. He got up at 8:45 to the rear rails and flies. Pa returned at 1:26 to the rear rails and picked at the remainders of the shell in the prey pile area. He flew at 1:28 to the left branch and away. He returned at 1:34 to the rear rails, then on to the bowl and nibbles. He moved to the prey pile area and stood. At 1:35, he flew to the left branch and out. Pa returned at 5:07 with a stick and he walked across the nest and right through the nest bowl without looking down and on to the right rails to place. Ma returned at 5:10 and he trimmed the stick he'd placed while she talked. Pa flew at 5:14. Ma stood on the nest for awhile, flying out at 5:26. Pa returned at 5:28 and flew out 5 minutes later. He returned at 6:27 and went to the bowl and picked at it, then lies down in it. He got up at 6:45 to the left branch and flew. He arrived back to the nest at 7:40 with a gray squirrel for Ma who arrived to claim it within 5 seconds of his arrival. Pa flew out within the same minute of his arrival. Ma started eating the squirrel right away and she tries to down the last of the pelt at 8:02 and is successful 2 minutes later. She flew out for the night at 8:06. Pa returned at 8:10 and to the bowl and aerates. He lies down in it 2 minutes later and it seems Pa is here for the night once again, but he got up at 8:49 and stood there. At 8:51 he is looking outward and around. Two minutes later he went to the left branch and flew out ... for the night ... fingers crossed!!

Bev, seeing your post above as I post this. I was so disappointed in their response and am seeing people who were aware of what happened from their chat here or actually saw the video of the event, accept this without question. Have been following this nest since the 2013/14 season and it is my first disappointment with them though ...

:1val: From what I can tell Pa did not come back to the nest during the night!! Ma came in at 8:01 with a fluff delivery and Pa joined her a minute later. They aerated together. Both took note of the remaining egg shell at the prey pile area, but left it alone. Pa left a couple minutes after arriving and Ma continued standing on the nest till flying out at 8:32. There were no further visits from either of them the rest of the morning.

:flirty: Ma has been standing on the nest since 2:53 ... think she's hoping Pa will bring her something to eat ...
Pa didn't bring her anything that I am aware. She continued to stand on the nest till going to the left branch and flying out a 5:56.
Ma right back at 6:05 with a fluff delivery. Pa arrived 3 minutes later and aerated, then flew to the right branch and away at 6:11. Ma flew at about 6:33.
At 7:45, Pa returned and Ma too! They moved a stick and did some aeration work. Pa pulled up a small piece of the eggshell from the bottom of the bowl and ate it. He went up to the left branch at 7:47 and flew a minute later while Ma pulled up a small piece of eggshell from the rear and ate it. She flew out at 8:06.

:1val: At 8:53 Ma is currently on the nest standing. She arrived at 8:02 this morning with Pa landing right behind her. She started to aerate initially, but stopped. Pa decided to leave a couple minutes after arriving. After standing on the nest all this time, Ma flew at 9:54.

:1val: At 4:56, Pa came in with a fish. He ate most of it, but left the remainder with the tail for Ma! He went to the bowl and aerated in and about a little, then flew at 5:15. Ma arrived at 6:30 and downed the remainder of the fish in one gulp! She flew out at 6:35.

:1val: Ma arrived to the nest at 7:28 and began aerating with Pa right behind her to the left branch that he eases down to the nest. He moved a stick and then aerated. He flew at 7:41 and Ma 3 minutes later. By 10:15 Ma is back and so is Pa within a minute. She was aerating and moving sticks while he goes to the bowl and stands. He moved to the rear to move some sticks and she assists. Pa back to the bowl to move some fluff out. At 10:25 he went to the left branch and flew. Ma remained on the nest standing and preening some. She flew at 11:39. But, returned at 11:41. He is back a couple minutes later. They aerate, then he left at 11:47. She remained standing on the nest till 12:04. Ma returned at 1:08 and stood on the nest till she saw Pa coming in with a stick at 1:39 and she immediately began to aerate. He placed the stick and then started aerating. Pa flew at 1:44 and Ma 2 minutes later.

:1val: Ma may spend the night as she is on the nest now. We'll have to wait and see. I have been wondering if she would do this once Pa gave up on the egg. Prior to laying the eggs, she started sleeping on the nest at night well before what you would expect an eagle to do because egg laying was near. I had wondered back then if it was easier on her with her leg. As I said, just have to see how this plays out. She is still here at 10:43, so I think she could stay for the night. Rest of today's report:

Ma arrived at 6:28 and Pa a minute later. He aerated and moved fluff in the bowl. They stood awhile and then he flew at 6:39. But he returned at 6:43 with a stick and placed. Then on to the bowl to aerate and I have noticed they are back to being a little nippy with one another again. Pa aerated some more and then he went to the rear of the nest to stand with Ma before going to the left branch at 6:50 and flying off. Ma flew out 2 minutes later. She returned at 6:55 with a stick and placed. He arrived at a little after 7 with a stick that he finally placed after dragging it over poor Ma! She flew at 7:12 and Pa worked with sticks, then he stood for awhile. He flew up to the left branch and out at 7:22. And Ma returns at 8:08 ... for the night!
