Sad news on 2 of the Condor chicks #1022 :sorrow:

and #1029

as they both perished in the Dolan Fire. Kingpin has not been located. The fire burned over the nest of the chick they rescued (from rock formation nest not redwood) a few days after. Due to an error, was unable to bring the report from today 9/11/20. Go to "Featured Comment" on this page for the full report from Ventana Wildlife Society:

It's not looking good for "Kingpin". The following is an excerpt given in response to an article someone posted on the California Condor site:

Hi All,
Yes, this article took the extra step to say these birds had died in the fire. We were unaware that this would be the wording they would use. The 9 birds are still missing and have not been located, so it does appear these birds were lost in fire.

However, we are still actively searching for the 9 missing condors, scanning radio signals and looking for visuals. We still have hope, but it's looking less likely they survived. The crew has been extremely busy the last few weeks and quite overwhelmed by it all. If we find a missing condor, you will be the first to know. Unfortunately the crew's efforts have yet to find additional survivors. As you can imagine, that has been quite a drain on all of us.

It looks as if E15 has returned at SWFL. She can be seen on cam 1 right now!! Harriet and M15 may have a helper yet for season 9!!
