:15heartbeat: And now very concerning, news on "Iniko" (chick of "Redwood Queen" and "Kingpin"):

:eggthumb: They went back to the nest and great news:

Ventana Wildlife Society
2 hrs ·
A few days ago, we reported our concern for “Iniko”, one of the condor chicks that survived the Dolan Fire. It appeared that “Iniko” had not been eating well and was lethargic.
While we were contemplating various possible ways to rescue this chick, Evan McWreath a VWS biologist, hiked to the nest today to check on “Iniko” and was thrilled to see what he found.
Today, Evan saw that “Iniko” had recently been fed! Evan knew this due to the crop entirely full on the chick’s chest. This crop is used to store food for later digestion and is the first place food goes after ingestion. This tell-tale sign means “Iniko” is not only still being cared for by his mother, Redwood Queen, but that he or she is fighting to stay alive. This food will give “Iniko” the energy he or she needs to continue being fed by Redwood Queen and hopefully get to fledge with the rest of the flock.

:15heartbeat: We will be unable to follow Obey and River this season at Dale Hollow D/T their nest tree was blown down in a storm late spring. Obey and River have been seen several times in the area since then. Once the leaves fall and it can be determined where the new nest is, Twin Lakes will be notified and hopefully run new cables and install new cams next year.

There is at least one chick at Orange--probably more judging by the number of shells! :hatchegg: :loveshow:

There are 2 chicks! :hatchegg: :hatchegg:

The new camera keeps going from a current time to sometime after dark, so I'm not having luck backing up
. :gaaaaah:

Not breaking news but a quite unique catch of a Falcon regurgitating gravel/pebbles. This is from the Cromer Falcons in the UK. Webcam is not online at the moment but every now and then a video or picture is posted on Twitter:

:15heartbeat: Iniko really has lived up to the meaning of his/her name "born in troubled times". So far Iniko has survived a fire that took his father's life "Kingpin" the head of this group of condors. Which means his mother "Redwood Queen" will most likely not hold her status within the group and have the same "pickings" she has grown accustomed to, but none the less has to continue care of Iniko and herself. There was a minor earthquake recently that you could see his nest tree shake while he was in the nest cavity. And now he has been forced out of the nest during an aggressive scuffle. He was expected to fledge at the end of this month and is within the fledge range. I saw his visitor that hung outside the nest cavity yesterday and I left right after the visiting condor did. It seemed harmless as it curiously peeked in the nest cavity at Iniko who cowered at times and then it left. Apparently it came back 6 minutes later and at some point Iniko threw out his wing and the visiting condor possibly went in to defend itself. There are 100's of comments and it is difficult to glean the facts. Redwood Queen then entered the nest to defend Iniko. Following is a GIF by Cali Condor of what happened and it starts with Redwood Queen entering the nest:

The visiting condor is "Ninja" a 5 or 6 y/o bachelor male who may be looking for a nest/territory/mate. All 3 condors were seen on the ground after the incident and it is believed that Iniko may not have suffered any noticeable injuries. Redwood Queen continued to come to Iniko's defense on the ground. In time darkness fell and I don't think there have been any updates today. Ventana Wildlife Society was in command of the cam at the time and are keeping an eye on things.

Never a dull moment and perhaps Redwood Queen will take on the visiting male. :flirty:
Intersting about the hierarchy and the possibility of Redwood Queen losing her status.
