:loveheart2: B15 is currently standing on the nest asleep with his head tucked. He has been alternating lying on the nest with standing. I think the reason he got up originally was to shake the rain from his wings. It continues to rain and varies in intensity. Wonder if he will remain standing to sleep for the rest of the night. If so, he will conquer another milestone! Mom is asleep with her head tucked on the left branch.

Edit to add: Nope, he laid back down at 12:20 am. Still a little rain at 01:00.

Berry College Eagles
Favorites · 3 hrs ·
As B15 grows and we look to the future with excitement, we also plan to celebrate the past—the past 10 years, specifically! This month marks 10 years of the eagle's nest at Berry College.
To celebrate, we need your help. We want your written memories, favorite photos you've taken, and favorite screencaps or video clips from the past decade to include in a special project. Email anything you'd like to share with us to socialmedia@berry.edu by March 21st!

:7val: Can't wait to see the end result!

:loveheart2: B15 spent a long day by himself. Mom left early this morning after having spent the night, then showed up only a bit before dark as did Pa, but B15 was also not pleased as he did not have a meal brought in today. He did pick from some morsels he could find in the rails and from the floor, but it was not much. They both left and came right back, but B15 would hardly look at them and stayed in the middle of the nest ready for bed. Pa left for the night, but Mom is staying on the left branch. Hopefully Pa will find something to bring in the morning for breakfast.

:5val: Today it was the happy family! Pa brought in the 1st fish for B15 at 6:32 this morning. Later on, can't remember, but maybe a squirrel. Then later in the day another fish. The parents stopped in here and there and fed him throughout the day. He also fed himself a little. He's lying on the nest sleeping and Mom is on the left branch sleeping with her head tucked.

:loveheart2: Sleeping alone with his head tucked in his Mom's spot on the left branch and it's not raining tonight. Lots of activity today exploring branches, wing flapping, catching a little air. Several times he was not seen on cam 1 as his exploration is taking him further out on the branches now. You could only find him with the app cam. Mom still spends the night with him sometimes, just not tonight.

:taz: Don't miss this video by Bel-a-Donna of B15 when an intruder adult eagle lands on the nest and quickly moves up further to a right branch. I saw this live this morning (my time) and thought it was Pa or Mom and could not understand B15's IMMEDIATE reaction. So proud of him and amazed as he knew immediately this eagle was a stranger, me...it took awhile to understand what was going on. Pa arrived about 10 minutes or so after the intruder with a fish for his boy's lunch and you can see how Pa handles the situation. This is a great video and it shows the action of the nest cam simultaneously with the approach cam. Go full screen.

:CLAPS: B15 overshot the left branch and slipped down out of sight, then flew out from it strongly @ 9:10:59 on cam 1 the overshot/slip can be seen, @ 9:17:53 on the app cam the flyout can be seen! The 3 cams' times are not in sync and the app cam timestamp shows 7 minutes ahead even though the action happened at the same time as on cam 1. The flyout was purposeful and strong!

Edit to add: From BEC:

10 second video by Berry.

"Happy fledge day!
Whether B15 meant to or not (and judging by that little slip, we're leaning more toward not), it took its first flight today! We know you're all excited, so we combined the view from cam 1 and the approach cam."

To me it was a fludge/fledge!

:eggthumb: Update from chat (will keep editing to add as reports come in, the times are actually 1 hour later for nest time as I live in the central time zone which is how it posts to me, but the nest is in the eastern time zone.):

Mar 31, 10:04 AM
Tam4BBandPeace: Okay, from photographers on the ground b15 in a pine tree between the fence and the welcome center. Parents are trying to get 15 back to the nest.

Mar 31, 10:11 AM
Tam4BBandPeace: Pictures will come in later today. B15 is doing fine!

Mar 31, 10:16 AM
Tam4BBandPeace: It just flew to a different tree now. Trying to makes its way back!

Mar 31, 10:36 AM
Tam4BBandPeace: Just got a text from Tani. Gena was at Berry first. b15 has flown to another tree and is now to the left of the nest and is doing great.

I forgot to add both Mom and Pa have been to the nest. Her several times. He brought a fish to the nest at 10:21. Mom has been on the nest for a long time now. She took a few tiny bites of the fish, but she is standing by it waiting for B15 to come home.

Mar 31, 11:39 AM
TaniDeaton: FYI just heard from Gena, B15 is sleeping in the same tree where he fledged to when she first got there.

So B15 has flown back to the original tree he landed in. Gena is one of the photographers that goes to Berry almost M-F and maybe occasionally on the weekends and has been doing so for a long time.

Approach cam is reported down at about 12:50 nest time.

Mar 31, 11:54 AM
LouLouB15: BC took the approach down for technical reasons. Will be back up shortly

12:52 nest time, Mom went to the left branch and has left the fish. She did take a few nibbles again, but has left it mostly intact for B15 when he returns. She flew out at 12:54 nest time.

Mar 31, 12:03 PM
LouLouB15: We have had plenty of reports and BC has zoomed out the approach cam

Mom back at 1:00 pm nest time with a stick for the rails to continue her remodel. She is torn between wanting B15 home and remodeling seeing as how he left! :teehee:

Mom took a few more nibbles, then flew with the fish at 1:30 pm nest time. And returned to the nest without it at 1:45 pm. Did she take it to B15, as she usually eats on the nest?

Mom to the left branch at 1:47 pm nest time.

Bel-a-Donna's video of fledge with cam one and approach cam simultaneous and a slo-mo:

"Berry College Eagles: B15 FLEDGES!! Mar 31, 2022"

Series of screen captures by Sela:

"Fludge/Fledge"

Mom flew from left branch at 2:20 pm nest time.

BCE has also zoomed out Cam 2.

Mar 31, 2:49 PM
TaniDeaton: FYI B15 is still in the same tree, moving around a bit in the same tree, and mom is nearby. She tried to give it fish and make it fly, but B15 did not make a move.

Another ground report relayed:

Mar 31, 6:07 PM
TaniDeaton: I have an awesome report from Gena...she said of 10 years of fledging this was something she hadn't seen before....

Mar 31, 6:07 PM
TaniDeaton: When she got there B15 was on a limb between the nest and welcome center...

Mar 31, 6:08 PM
TaniDeaton: It sat there and kind bobbed around on that limb back and forth

Mar 31, 6:08 PM
TaniDeaton: It was a while of flapping etc. and what we saw with mom flying around with the fish was right...

Mar 31, 6:08 PM
TaniDeaton: mom took the fish around and around and came back into the nest the first time we saw on camera

Mar 31, 6:08 PM
TaniDeaton: the second time she took it out, she did the same thing, around and around and back in...

Mar 31, 6:09 PM
TaniDeaton: the third time, mom dropped the fish

Mar 31, 6:09 PM
TaniDeaton: She went to the ground and got the fish, and landed under B15 on a lower limb

Mar 31, 6:09 PM
TaniDeaton: Gena has never seen a parent do that before

Mar 31, 6:10 PM
TaniDeaton: she went to the ground and tried to get B15 to jump down to her

Mar 31, 6:10 PM
TaniDeaton: he didn't squee, he just flapped a bit and just stayed right there
Mar 31, 6:10 PM

Mar 31, 6:10 PM
TaniDeaton: Gena said she'd never seen anything like that.

Mar 31, 6:11 PM
TaniDeaton: So the baby is still there, and mom is nearby

Pa showed up with a meal at 7:39 and Mom a minute later. They both proceeded to aerate the floor of the nest near the fish and then Mom made her move and has been eating since. Pa has watched her eat and worked on the rails some. It will be dark soon.

Mom gives up on the eating at 8:03 and Pa immediately goes over to get some bites. It looks to be a dried carcass of a fish. She went to the left branch and flew. Pa continues to eat.

Pa continues to eat at 8:24 as darkness falls.

Pa quit eating at 8:29 nest time and flew up to the left branch, then out seconds later. Soon welcoming vocals and responses could be heard in the distance.

And from Longfellow:

The day is done, and the darkness
Falls from the wings of Night,
As a feather is wafted downward
From an eagle in his flight.

:loveheart2: B15 has already flown to several trees this morning, but best of all he flew around the nest tree awhile ago and landed in a tree per ground report. Maybe B15 will make it back to the nest today!

:loveheart2: And another ground report that is covering the same as above report, but mentions Mom: "Ground Report: B15 has been flying from tree to tree. Mom is following 15 everywhere. 15 is flying beautifully!"

:eggthumb: And photos are starting to show up from B15's fledge yesterday from ground photographers. They are slow to come in, but are at least starting to trickle and will continue to come in on his adventures over the days to come. To see these even if you are not a member of facebook go to:

1) Cam page
2) To the left of the cam in red where you see the selections of which cam you want to watch, go to bottom of that list and select: "Our Eagles On Facebook"
3) Below and to the left of the "Send message" tab in blue is a horizontal list that begins with: Home, About, etc and ends with "More", select "More"
4) Then select "Community" at the bottom of that list and you will see the new photos of B15 coming in on the right column under "Public posts at Berry College Eagles". He is gorgeous!!

:eggthumb: I just checked on B15 and he is still on the left branch with his back to us and awake, but he had been sleeping most of the night. He had a great day since coming back home, mostly eat and rest. Pa flew in right away with his 1st fish of the day and returned a bit later with another one. There were other meals too. Both parents continue to feed him at times. I saw some of Tani's photos of B15 from today before he returned to the nest. It seems B15 doesn't always land on branches, but right in the middle of a treetop! I know early morning he was nailing at least some landings, but later it was said he needs to work on landings some. I think when he returned to the nest it was to lower branches of the nest tree, then he made his way up branch by branch. It was noted that Mom followed B15 all morning while he was away from the nest. And B15 is now asleep again with his head tucked. Berry's "10th Anniversary Video" is available under the cam. After viewing staff and followers favorite moments, you will know how the gift box of fish, fluff and sticks for the eagles made it to the right branch!
