Susan H's report from Monday afternoon: kf- I agree about the pic. Drop dead gorgeous!!

This afternoon I saw lots of scary landings followed by good recoveries and sucessful flights. The last at about occurred at about 5:45pm. I looked up and saw a juvie hanging on for dear life on the window molding (not even a sill) on about the 26th floor on the South side of MT. It left there and flew up to just above the nest box and slide down the roof and landed on the ledge in front of Kinney who was on the perch. It smiled for the camera. At about 2pm we thought we saw Maxie leave because we saw a bird take off from 25 SE of MT but later in the afternoon her head popped up in the same place she has been for 2 days and our spotter in the building again read her bands. They can move to spots on the ledges where you cannot see them and there could have been 2 birds there because Geneva was also on that side of the building. I saw 3 juvies this PM but cannot confirm 4.
ON my way downtown now. SusanE an Richard are probably already there!

It was kind of a slow day today. Still 3 confirmed juvies. There were a few flights, and the landings I witnessed were decent. Yea!

These are the four chicks from the other nest in Indianapolis. It is located at a power plant [IPL- their HQ is the building that you see from the ledge cam on the right with all the special lighting] but there is no cam.
3 males and one big girl. I believe they had 5 eggs, but apparently one did not hatch.

Another good morning in Indy today. Inbetween the rain delays there have been some awesome flying acrobatics. Some landings are still not on point, but recoveries are good. Still only 3 juvies in sight at any one time. Our big girl, Geneva, found her daddy's stash today.  :eat

Today on fledge watch was fun as the juvies are getting so much better at flying, although some landings are still a little iffy. Three juvies were enjoying the skies and hanging out together on various buildings, including the Conrad Hotel and Sheraton Hotel. They are so cute when they all gather together and then plop down and look over the edge at their subjects below. The annual Strawberry Festival was on the Circle today so the kids got to enjoy some music from their high vantage point.

Just returned and we are still only seeing 3 juvies at any one time - both females and one unidentified male. Lots of bumping and flying by all, but now it seems as if they have settled in for a long hot day atop the Sheraton Hotel. I hope to go back down later [after I take dog to the vet].

Thanks for the report, gigi...didn't they think the "windshield" falcon was a female? Or did I just dream that..

Yes, we did think the windshield falcon was a female based on the fact that we knew we had a female at the top of the parking garage earlier. We were under the assumption that it was the same bird, but since no one who could make that determination saw "her" we don't know for sure.

I was back downtown for a few hours this morning and was treated to some talon tag of a couple juvies; one defeathering its own prey and another stooping 3 small birds (unsuccessfully). It rained much of the morning, so not a lot of action, but when I left all 3 were getting cozy atop the Sheraton Hotel roof (23 floors). :girlluv:

gigi, hope your dog is okay.

Yes, catwoman, watching is so addictive!

We were treated to some fantastic aerial shows this morning. The boy (don't know which one) was chasing his sister and bumping her in the sky -- typical little brother. There were some great swoops and turns. Then Kathy was on the monument defeathering a meal when (we think) Geneva came in and chased her mother away and proceeded to scarf down the meal herself. She had to do some more defeathering and it took her forever. Ultimately, all 3 juveniles ended up on the monument together, and if my pics turned out, I'll post them next.

The best part of the morning was my "initiation." Laura took me to the top of a garage knowing that the two juvies on the nearby hotel would cause Kathy to dive-bomb us. She was right. First came the loud alarm kaks and as we moved closer to the edge, here Kathy came, and she meant business. There were at least 3 deep swoops toward us. How fun and scary all at the same time! :o
