Got a response about turning the cam on. Short and sweet.

dear lyn,

our intention is to connect the webcam again once the falcons had chosen a suitable nest site.
thank you for your interest J

Peregrine Falcon Webcam

Anglesea Power Station

Alcoa of Australia
=================================================================================
I will be checking the cam to see if it goes on, but I don't think we will be watching Alcoa this year.

There were 3 eggs already at Emily and Frederick's nest. Not sure how long it's been now. Can't wait to see chicks.

Ljames, I bumped the whole article up, because I'm sure we'll want to refer to it.

Wonder what they consider a "suitable" nesting site, or if they consider anything other than the nestbox suitable. I agree that we probably won't be watching an Alcoa cam this year, but stranger things have happened!

Pru, SGB said that if Robyn wants to post pics of this beautiful pair, she'll open a new thread...

Thank you, catwoman, for reminding us about the status of the nest in Robyn Hill's window box. I had also forgotten there were already eggs! Which leads me to believe more were laid after those 3 since Emily was happily sitting off of them in that cute picture of her with her head cocked. I'm really looking forward to Robyn's decision about sharing her experience with us.

It is possible that there are more eggs cause the 3rd one was laid 6 days after the first! I'm also looking forward to getting to know Emily, Frederick and Robyn!

They published a new photo of Ava & Havoc today:

Wednesday September 8, 2010
The water tower continues to be the focus for courtship between Ava and Havoc,
with ledge displays, Havoc delivering food and some more

Let's hope there will be a nest anyway :attention:

Oh Dear ... could A&H be thinking of making a scrape on that top step??? And it looks as tho' staff can get a pretty good view of goings-on ... it could be either very interesting or very tragic - let's hope for somewhere in between ... :sunblink:

Thanks for posting the picture & the news, Ferenz! Hope they nest somewhere where the eggs/chicks will be safe even though we can't watch them...

Oh my, poor babies, they look determined to use that water tower. The eggs will be coming, and no decent place to lay them. :-( I don't even want to know the outcome, because how can it be good? The workers will still be harassed and the nest will most likely fail. And we don't get to watch our falcons. Everybody loses.

Thanks Ferenz for alerting us to the new post. It is a good picture.

Awesome coverage, folks!

I'm impressed with Alcoa's falcon conservancy. They seem to be really thinking this out, even though many of us don't agree with their conclusions. Kudos to Alcoa!

I'm sure they are in a difficult spot, wanting to help the falcons, but trying to make sure the workers aren't injured. I guess they could possibly be sued even. It would be nice if the falcons would just go to their designated nest, but it must not meet their requirements.

While I was checking various sites this morning to see which cams are still on, I ran across this:

Do peregrines mate for life? Definitely not. In fact they are extremely promiscuous. Some females will mate with another male while her first mate is looking after the eggs.

This was a question & answer section done by the RDRN (Red Deer River Naturalists)! Another example of the different answers you can get to the same question depending upon which experts you ask!

I'm not surprised by that response catwoman; given what we've seen and heard of in the past few years. In the old days, they'd only go out during nesting season and spend a bit of time observing various nest sites and draw their conclusions based on a snapshot view of the their lives - kind of like when you only watch the nestbox on cam and then make all kinds of assumptions on behaviour based on 3 months of staring into a box.

Now that we have web cams with different views and many people watching many sites from the ground year round - we're learning alot more about their lives. And like humans, not all pefa's behave the same way or conform to what we think of them. I expect they are also constantly evolving and adapting to life in an urban setting as well.

Wow - well said & observed Carly - thanx for that :attention:

Without the webcam it’s back to old fashioned binoculars and manual camera work (well it is a digital camera) to bring you the latest news from Ava and Havoc. One advantage is the up close and personal moments such as this encounter with Havoc on the Power Station.

Hi all :nicetomeet: ,

I´m Karin from Cologne/Germany and I´m working as a voluntary falconer in my free time.
I´m reading all your entries here for years and I love this site because it´s so informative and I always feel so much how devoted all of you are to the most awesome raptor on earth...the peregrine falcon :hearts:

Unfortunately I havn´t got the time to write entries entries regularly but at least I want you to know a new peregrine cam site which I found by chance http://www.gumtreecs.com.au/wordpress/ .

As we are not able to watch the Alcoa falcon cam and Frodocam in the moment maybe the Australian Gumtree falcons can comfort you a little bit.

Enjoy! And best wishes from Germany to all of you

Karin

Thank you so much for your post and link :flirty:

Does the cam have a live link to watch? - very nice updates on the falcons at Charles Sturt University!

Please check in/visit when you have time!
