Just added;

New video clips are now available – here we have Swift making herself heard, comfy on her branch, and then Beau flew back to support her but they bickered between themselves as much as warned me!
We will continue to monitor the surrounding area in the hope that Solo re-appears ….

And this....DEF asks the right question;

Ingrid Said On 21-11-2010

Could she be stuck somewhere on a building? A chimney or ventilation shaft.
This is very puzzling and makes us all worry.
I’m keeping fingers and talons crossed for a good outcome, hope she will turn up soon.

ScottBanks Said On 21-11-2010

Hi Ingrid,
From the tower there are a couple of lower lying buildings which have had their roofs checked. There are also some fenced-off enclosures (airconditioning equipment etc) which have been double-checked as well. We’ve got all staff, security and interested persons on campus keeping an eye out, but so far no luck. If she was stuck somewhere it won’t be a good outcome but we’re not giving up yet! Thanks for your concern …..

Thanks for posting that update, Mick! Boy, you can really hear the kookaburra, huh?

Ingrid certainly did ask the right questions. Sounds like at least Scott has been watching out for Swift & Beau's little ones for several years, so he knows where to look. I think the only other thing they could do is to get Jane & Reenie down there to look!
:o

I'm so glad that DEF sent that message. I was wondering if they had considered all those possibilities. Sounds like they are looking in all the right places, still, she is somewhere. But where? Thanks for posting.

Edit: I wish that we could all go down there and help them look. I know they must be stressed out by now.

Thanks for posting the recent videos and DEF's comments, Mick...great questions...and it does sound like they have been looking in all the right places...here's a terrible question...could someone have picked her up..falcon kidnapping? Its like she has vanished into thin air...I am glad the parents have been spotted...that does give me a glimmer of hope...

I also agree...I do wish we had our crackerjack spotters down there...I'm sure our veteran fledgewatch members, staked out for 8 hours, might be able to find her!!!

Beth, gas up the plane...and Reenie and Jane, pack your bags...

You know, that is a thought SGB, and a scary one. Not just anybody could pull it off, I'm thinking it would have to be someone with falcon experience and they'd have to be pretty brazen to go in and grab her like that with the folks down there looking for her. It's just hard to imagine that there are people who would take a perfectly healthy little falcon away from it's parents, but I've heard of those who do just that. And yes, Jane and Reenie would make a perfect addition to their search team.

Success – the falcon has landed!
Posted on 21-11-2010
After a couple of days of worry and concern for our new fledgling myself and friend,
Lydia, took another desperate trip out to campus to go ‘in search of’
one more time this weekend. We waited until about 6pm when the early summer
evening still had some light left in it. Almost immediately we spotted a bird in the
pine trees below the tower. Swift was spotted sitting happily up on top of the tower
but the bird perched on one of the branches just below the branch which
Swift has been frequenting lately proved to be our Solo. We managed to sneak
up close behind a well camouflaged, low hanging acacia branch and got to within
about 25 metres (approx 80 feet). Close-up photos show it’s Solo !!
Image

Young Solo in the trees... finally
Apologies for the bad quality pics – it’s what happens when at half light,
with full zoom, including trashy digital zoom in some cases! Undoubtably
it’s our Solo in the above pic. We have brief video clips of her calls and it’s quite
different to both parents, as were recorded yesterday. More pics are over to the
right in the “More Solo ….” gallery.

It’s a HUGE relief to know she’s OK and we can now tick that empty box we
had left open.

Her antics also proved her identification; happy to walk up and down the
branches, sometimes bouncing from one to another, testing the wind with her
outstretched wings when a breeze picked up, the odd call to mum
(who never left the tower for the 2 hours we quietly observed).
As evening closed in we were even treated to a loose flying circuit of the trees
as Solo attempted to gain height to get up to the more exposed “lunch branch”
where Beau and Swift normally eat. We waited for Beau to return with dinner but
no sign, in the meantime Lydie acting as a mosquito attractant! Both Swift and Solo
uttered helpless calls for us, but in vain before settling in for the night.

We will all sleep better tonight knowing she’s back; we can but wonder where
she’s been and where she’s been hiding …

Scott

WELL, IF I COULD BE THERE, YOU KNOW I WOULD! WITH ALL THOSE TREES, I'M SURE THE JUVIE COULD BE ANYWHERE, BUT REMEMBER, THE ADULTS "ALWAYS" KNOW WHERE THEY ARE :-) I PRAY THEY ARE OK.

Kudos to those searching for and finally finding little Solo. Of course Reenie and I would be happy to be on falcon watch in the land down under. I was lucky enough to visit Oz in 2004, and even luckier to find Peregrines in three different locations! :-)

Early morning breakfast
Posted on 22-11-2010 0We arrived on campus this morning to find all three peregrines on the tower – a real treat. And even moreso for that wayward chick Solo as she was enjoying her very own tenderised galah for breakfast, while Swift watched passively from the other end of the tower, and Beau stayed out of the way down on the ledge.

A big thank you to everyone who’s sent us wishes and messages – we think you’re all fantastic for watching with us and enjoying the activities… and hanging in there!! More to come…..
