:15heartbeat: Jak did not try to incubate the broken egg today. It is now only a nearly flattened piece. So I believe the incubation is over finally, even for Jak! It was incubated for 85 days, at least by him, her not that many.

Thank you to Dave and Gina Long with Catalina Falconry for adopting the Two Harbors nest and allowing the students at Avalon Schools to suggest and vote on names. The winning name is Lancer, the school's mascot. The chick measured as a female based on the beak and as a male based upon the leg. I'm going with female for the records.

:dancegirl: Dr. Sharpe banded the Fraser Point eaglets yesterday morning on 5/28/22. Found out on chat that sometimes if they are the same sex, he also bands on opposite legs to tell them apart, so waited till today to see what he reported. Male, Orange Band on right 57/D, Federal on left. Female, Orange Band on left 53/D, Federal on right.

:loveheart2: Ahote still has not returned to the nest since his fledge. Several times he has walked down the top of the formation between him and the nest, gets halfway, then turns back. He has not been fed since his fledge. He really seems to want to get back, but doesn't seem to have the confidence to fly. From Dr. Sharpe:

Institute for Wildlife Studies Mod • 2 hours ago
Just a note: Anywhere you can see Ahote from the Overlook cam is still at least 30-40 meters from the nest. He could walk to the base of the nest pinnacle, but from my experience eagles don't seem to like to walk down steep slopes. Eagles that fall out of nests are usually found up the slope from the nest.

Screen Capture by im_ann:

Here he is halfway down, but he always goes back. Sometimes he is walking down and now sometimes it is half flying/hopping down.

:10sum: And finally he made it home yesterday after 4 days! (see above) Video by Gracie Shepard:

Ahote makes it home on Monday, June 6th!

There was concern by cam viewers of Ahote not being fed after his fledge. (It turned out to be for 4 days.) Someone found an old reply from Dr. Sharpe after he had been asked how long can an eaglet go without food:

Dr. Sharpe's calculations for how long an eaglet can go with out food.
