As we welcome in the New Year, I wanted to repost the info from several months ago!! If you have a few moments, it would be great if you could send an email, take the survey, etc. We have no control over what Durand and Aries decide, but we can do our part in expressing our support and (strong) desire to see a cam up and running!!

So how can we help? Several ways...(this info is from Donna)

First, we can take a survey, which can be found here:

You'll notice that it asks you to rank several Ohio DNR services. Just ignore that. Under the services, you'll see a text box where you can share your thoughts/support/suggestions/enthusiasm, etc. Quick and easy.

The second way (or ways) is via email or contact form:

Direct email: wildinfo@dnr.state.oh.us, Attn: Chief Miller

I heard back from Karen...here is her response:

Unfortunately, there has not been any activity at the Rife Center (no sign of them in either box or even feeding anywhere on the observation level). Just this week I moved the trail cam to the south side of the building. (Fingers crossed)

I did see one of the falcons buzz some pigeons that were sitting on top of the building but that is it.

I will keep you posted. Please keep bumping me for information. (I need it.lol)

I am out of town until at least Monday, but if I get anymore info, I'll post it here!!

Thanks for letting us know Sky! I was unsure of this comment last month:" So far, it appears that the relocation effort is working. We should know more in the spring as they prepare for nesting season." It's why I wished they had expanded on that comment. Now, it appears this comment may mean ... the relocation effort is working as they are no longer @ the Rhodes. Odd that the same printed words on a page actually can have different meanings according to what is meaningful to the writer/reader. For BCAW of course we hoped it meant the falcons were checking out the new box! :girlsad3:

All we can do now is hope, hope, hope!! :loveheart2:

:girlsad3: It's still early January. At least they are still in the area. Once hormones start to kick in later in the month, they may pick a box. I am going to try and remain hopeful, but they may choose another ledge on another building. Time will tell. Thanks SGB and Karen.

We are starting to see courtship behaviors with other pairs, both here and in Europe. I've emailed Karen to see if there are any updates...fingers crossed that at least one of the boxes is getting some PeFa action.

Karen's response:

Unfortunately, they are still not showing up at the new nest location.

    Keep checking in.

:girlsad3:

Maybe our Columbus members could start scanning the skies when they are downtown..maybe?

:girlsad3: Oh dear....I wonder where they are? Canoodles tend to start near Valentine's Day for Durand. I wished I lived there. I would plant myself downtown with my binoculars. Hopefully, we'll get feedback from those that live and work in Columbus. This was my 1st nest to watch and I will really miss them if they left. Sigh!

I emailed Karen back and asked specifically if there had been any reported falcon activity at the Rhodes...I just remember what Mariah went through trying to get back to her nest ledge in Rochester...

That was the sadist thing ever. I would hate to think that sweet little Durand would go though that. I too, wish that I could be there to observe.

Checking the posts here. Hoping the Columbus falcons will find a suitable nesting site. I know how upsetting it would be if the cams were eliminated in Harrisburg. For the record, the canoodling HAS started in Harrisburg.
