Both have been around nest site most of the morning. I am impressed that this young one knows what to do . He goes to box often now.

Thanks Terka for pictures.

This could be a very educational season. Young one is bulking up and seems more muscular, which often happens after a falcon secures a site. Fingers crossed , things remain peaceful

11:43- finally stopped raining and both there. One on cam arm and one on ledge

Edit
Before this they bonded in box. He likes this box. He knows exactly what to do..
I had seen him bring prey gift to ledge this morning and now can’t find it in history

It was nice to see them together more today. The female brought in prey after 11am and stashed behind box. It was pouring .
The rain just won’t quit. The storms in area are incredible.
It is the worst.

I was excited at first because I thought that was an egg! (That's the male in the box!)

He loves the box, Nancy.

They were both there today. I think the rains and wind is slowing things down. I did see a canoodle yesterday.

Hello all,

The Cal Fish and Wildlife Lab and the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley let us know that Shasta's remains were HPAI positive. This means her cause of death was likely Avian Influenza. This is sobering news and the closest to home this new strain of HPAI has hit so far. Some of us may wonder if Sequoia also contracted the virus. It is certainly possible. That said, we believe the main source of the virus to peregrine falcons at this point is consumption of infected prey. So there is a real chance that Sequoia has not succumbed to the disease but was just outcompeted at the territory. Luckily, Sequoia is banded so we have a chance to find out more about him. If I receive any further information on his whereabouts and condition I will update you all here.

Best of luck to our current pair!
Zeka

THIS does not surprise Ma at all, and I hate to be a downer, but if he ate same prey, well, just say, he may never succumbed to this also.
I hope they do not take this lightly as we lost quite a number of falcons to this in Alberta last year. And this was just the ones we found. I am worried this year also
Let’s hope there will be no more here.

I agree Bev. If he was "ok" I don't see any reason why he would not have stayed on territory and courted the new female. She was alone for days before this sub adult showed up. We have a few days of calm weather, then another possible "bomb cyclone" come next Tuesday. Don't get me wrong, we need the rain, but :imbored: :imbored: :imbored:
