Red Girl and the new male are doing fine and visiting the box often. In their morning meetings Red Girl ee-chups for a minte or two, then starts screeching at the male. Could she be demanding food? Trinity used to start bringing breakfasts to Red Girl at the beginning of February.

Last summer, when the two were still hopelessly trying to incubate Red Girl and Trinity's eggs, the new male brought he food daily, so he knows the routine.

I saw a post including a video from this morning of what was thought to be a female in the nest box. The bird was not banded, and obviously not Red Girl. Cause for concern. Please post any observations, if any, on here.

Red Girl has not been seen for a couple of days, and today an unbanded PEFA visited the nest box three times. From the size of the bird it appears to be female (the voice also sounds female)

On the third visit the new banded male could be seen flying display flights in front of the box.

Last year the tercel, Trinity, was replaced. It is very likely that now Red Girl has been replaced. Red Girl was hatched in Harrisburg, PA in 2008. For more that a decade Red Girl has laid clutches of up to six eggs a year, and most have hatched and fledged. she was much loved and if indeed her reign is over she will be fondly remembered.

:girlsad3: Thanks DavidN. Jane check out 14:59:52 as the talkative Female with speckled chest arrives and immediately you can start seeing the male make at least 3 passes to display. Eventually she wanders over to look down in the nest and soon out to the edge to fly out.

I am not giving up here.
But Red girl has been a staple here for so long. She was truly one of the best. If not here anymore, I truly hope she is safe somewhere.
It ,ay be a hard year at a lot of nests,

So Red Girl would have been 15 this year? I watched her from the start, quite a girl. So many ups and downs for her, but she was the best mother ever, (you know after that first hatch). Mom and Lil' Dad would be proud of her. It's hard to think that she is gone. I hope not, but it looks like it. It's been a privilege to watch her life.

Red Girl has returned !!!

She arrived alone in the nest box late yesterday afternoon. She was very dishevelled and appeared to be completely exhausted. Shey laid down and stayed motionless (except for heavy breathing) for an hour and a half, then left. I couldn't confirm the band numbe yesterday.

This morning she followed the banded male into the box. They bowed and ee-chupped for a while. She looked a LOT better. This morning I was able to discern the band number - A53. That's Red Girl.

No sign of the new female. I think Red Girl may have reclaimed th eterritory yesterday.

This is so great. Probably went away and recovered from possible first encounter weeks ago and as you say, David, reclaimed her site and needed to rest.

Same thing happened at Osgosh.
Let’s keep positive and look ahead . For now enjoy her :loveheart:
