Thanks David.
Sad but after watching from ground for 19 years , in my areas , I feel Bridgett will be training 48.

Fingers crossed, we see him in the future.

Tough year all over

Thank for the information and video, David. We can only hope 48 is OK.

Better luck next year.

There have certainly been a lot of changes in the three years since the long and successful reign of Red Girl and Trinity. Red girl was replaced by an unbanded female, then Red Girl fought her way back for a short encore. Then the weakened Red Girl was usurped by Bridget. On the male side there was even more mayhem. Trinity fell to Whitman. Then came a male from City Hall in Philadelphia, Neuman, who produced 5 eggs with Bridget but never got to see them hatch. And of course the inexperienced Stewart who arrived at very much the wrong time and couldn't seem to do anything right because he just didn't know how to do anything right. Red Girl and Trinity routinely fledged four to five every year. In the three years since they disappeared only one, perhaps two came from the Wilmington nest box. There was not a villain among those adult peregrines. They were just doing what peregrines do, looking for a home and a mate. They sure stirred up a lot of fears and tears in a few homo sapiens in the process.

Stewart seems to be doing everything right this year. He is bringing food to Bridget, doing display flights, and doing the "act" The only thing I haven't seen him do is make scrapes.

If you remember Stewart took over the territory last year when Bridget was incubating 5 eggs from the previous male. Stewart was just turning 2 years old, and had been the only hatchling in his home nest, so he was unfamiliar with eggs, baby falcons, or any other mating "rituals" The first two pipped eggs did not survive the hatching process. Two more eventually hatched and the nestlings were barely tolerated by Stewart, but they went on to fledge. As soon as they were free-flying in his territory he saw them as intruders, attacked them, and drove them away. One of the fledglings was injured and was humanely euthanized, the other disappeared.

Hopefully this year Stewart will have his ducks in a row (unless he eats them)

We had a lot of camera problems during the off season but they are now straightened out.

Here is a video of some activity during the past three days.

Thank you David.

We had the thing at our U of A nest. Our new male , attacked our female fledgling and she was taken to a rehab. A falconer , who raises falcons took her , to try and see if she could be ok, in the art of falconry.
Looking forward to great things this year

Unless she can survive in the wild I don't think a bird can be used for falconry.

She might be able to be an ambassador bird.

Either way, the falconer will know and will do what is right.

Stewart is now taking his turns covering the eggs.

Last year Stewart arrived on scene when Bridget was already incubating 5 eggs from the previous male. Stewart was 2 years old, so probably just becoming sexually mature. He watched Bridget on the eggs and when she left he would go and stand over the eggs, but he was never observed actually sitting on them.

Bridget has laid two eggs so far this year. Yesterday Bridget got up when Stewart arrived and he headed directly for the eggs. He spent a few minutes haltingly trying to figure out how to cover the eggs and eventually solved the problem He stayed for the better part of an hour.

This morning he brought food for Bridget and when she took it he headed for the eggs. He covered them for two hours until Bridget returned. He then seemed hesitant to hand back the egg duty to Bridget.

It does not appear that the eggs ate being incubated yet, just being kept safe and warm.
