You have such good luck at catching the falcons at home, Loza. I saw a video that was posted on Facebook a bit ago. It was from this morning (January 14). Red Girl and Trinity were busy chattering to each other on the ledge in front of the nest box.

Trinity brings a breakfast treat to Red Girl this morning.
This gift of food is part of the bonding and mating ritual,
and demonstrates the male's ability to be a good provider of food.
When Red Girl starts egg production in March it will free her from the activity of hunting,
which could harm any egg forming inside her.
So, here we go again ..

Interesting to see that Red Girl spent the night in the nest box a few weeks ago. Our part of the world has had some BITTER cold weather, and perhaps that's why she slept in the box. I saw a video posted on Facebook just a few days ago of Trinity bringing breakfast for Red Girl. They must be most active in the morning.

Loza, you showed a picture of New Jersey falcons.
Juliet, b / g 41 / AX, male unbanded.

Residents in this nest are:
Female - Red Girl - rev. black / green A / 53 - left leg, red tape on right b. 2008 in Harrisburg - came to Wilmington in February 2010

The male - Trinity - without rings, came to this nest in April 2013 (he is the third male in this nest)

Quote:
Trinity has now started supplying two feedings a day to Red Girl. This relieves her from all hunting efforts, an activity which could potentially harm a forming egg. Both falcons are visiting the nestbox and working the scrapes several times a day now. Typically she lays her first egg in the first week of March. Two years ago her first egg arrived on Fabruary 26th! That's right, we are just a week or two away now. Here are some quick clips of her food deliveries from Monday through today.

FINALLY found Red Girl at home around 5:30 this afternoon. Watched her sitting at the end of of ledge with her feathers blowing in the wind. And all of a sudden Trinity flew in with Red Girl's dinner. She grabbed it from him and flew off with it.

Great video, Terka. I saw a similar video of this event posted on Facebook this morning. The prey was labeled as being "fast food".

Am kind of puzzled as to why Red Girl hasn't laid a second egg. Was really expecting that to happen yesterday. I watched for about an hour before dark this afternoon. She spent most of the time on the platform in front of the nest box, but eventually went into the box, stood over the egg, and fooled with the gravel a bit. Very short time actually sitting on the egg. She went back up on the platform, stayed a while, and then flew. If any falcon experts have any ideas about this please post. Forgot to mention that it looked like she had a full crop.

I saw the second egg around 9 this morning, but not sure when she laid it. Red Girl eventually hopped up on the platform doing some calling, and Trinity flew in with breakfast.

It seems that Red Girl is only going to lay 3 eggs. She was incubating the other 2 eggs.
