:egg8: Right now, it is hard to tell if someone is by the column, because it is a little blurry and at times it looks as if someone there and others does not. From the "Falcon Wire" (It's nice how they are including reports from people who are actually there.):

6/17/2023 :: Yellow flies with Dad
Father's Day came about eight hours early when Yellow was observed flying with his father in the Harrisburg skies today.

Watch and Rescue Volunteer Valerie Flanders was on the scene and reports: "It has been an incredibly exciting evening here. Yellow took flight and then dad (85/AK) joined him. They flew for a couple of minutes, so smooth and synchronized. It was absolutely beautiful!!"

:eggthumb: Yellow and Blue can both be seen on the point cam right now.

6/18/2023 :: Yellow Gaining Flight Skills
At about 7 AM, Yellow took off from the 9th floor ledge, flew out across Market past the church, over the Chestnut St Garage to land on the roof of the new University building at 3rd & Chestnut. Fifteen minutes later, he took wing once again and flew to land on the roof of the RCSOB, directly above the nest ledge. He is demonstrating increasing wing strength and confidence in the air.

At 40 days old, Blue appears ready to fledge. She has been vigorously exercising her wings and making short hop flights along the ledge.

Stay tuned to the Falcon Cam to see if this is her day!

4:25 Mom in with prey, so both down to meet her and can be seen on the stick cam for the feed!

:15heartbeat: I do not see Blue at this time nor any of the others. Green was returned this evening from Red Creek. From the "Falcon Wire":

6/18/2023 :: Green returns home!
Red Creek Wildlife Center called this afternoon with the news that Green was cleared to come home today. Transport was quickly arranged and shortly after 5 PM he was released to the RCSOB roof, ready to fly. Green sat for half an hour on the roof then had an amazing flight, landing on the area under the University roof that the Watch crew calls The Fridge.

Many thanks to Red Creek for their wonderful care!

:5val: Blue fledged this morning! From the "Falcon Wire":

6/19/2023 :: Blue has fledged!
It has been a very busy morning for the Harrisburg falcons! Green and Yellow have both had several good flights, with landings on nearby buildings. At 6:45 AM, Yellow flew from the roof of the RCSOB in a spiraling flight that carried him to the top of 333 Market St., the traditional benchmark for achieving flight competency.

Meanwhile Green ventured to the roof of the new University building at 3rd & Chestnut, then a short time later, flew to the roof of the University at 4th & Market.

Back at the ledge, Blue was very active this morning, showing every indication that she was ready to fly. At 8:45 AM she did just that, fledging in a strong flight to the far end of the University roof.

Now that all three young falcons have fledged, they will spend the next week or two improving their flight skill and stamina. They will remain dependent on the adults for food and protection as they hone their skills. The adults will join them in aerial games and hunting lessons.

Watch and Rescue will continue to monitor their progress from the ground, to document their progress and lend a hand if one of the fledglings needs it. Stay tuned for the next stage of fledgling development!

:5val: Not seeing anyone tonight. And OMG...I held my breath till I got to the end of the 1st paragraph...

6/19/2023 :: Fledgling Learning Curve
One of the most important lessons for falcon fledglings is not to aim too high until their wings can carry them. Late this morning, Blue learned this lesson the hard way. After a strong second flight, she came up short on an attempt to reach the top of 333 Market Street. Attempts to land on a secondary target were also unsuccessful and she came to ground, where she was quickly rescued by the Falcon Watch & Rescue crew. Blue appeared uninjured, but to be on the safe side, she was transported to Red Creek for evaluation.

While we await her return, Yellow and Green are now exploring the area surrounding the RCSOB. Check back here for updates on the young falcons as they master their wings!

:eggthumb: Blue returned to the ledge after stay at Red Creek! Right now, can see one on the fat part of the stick with their back to us and one lying next to the column.

6/20/2023 :: Blue is back!
The rehabbers at Red Creek gave Blue a thorough checking over and cleared her to return to the RCSOB.

Transportation was arranged and the Watch and Rescue crew were on hand to cover her release.

At 3 PM, Blue was placed on the ledge where she will be able to take flight again when she is ready.

Thank you to Red Creek Wildlife Center for caring for Blue!

:15heartbeat: Not seeing anyone right now. Update today on yesterday:

6/21/2023 :: Tuesday recap
Tuesday was another successful day for the RCSOB fledglings!! Both Yellow and Green demonstrated their developing prowess as fliers, making numerous forays in pursuit of the adults or playing the falcon version of tag with each other. At one point, Yellow completed a breathtaking stoop from the point of 333 to the nest ledge, braking hard at the last moment and coming to a perfect landing at the skinny part of the column. Green also engaged in a display of aerial derring-do when he briefly chased 09 into a mid-air tussle high above 333 before returning to his rooftop perch.

At 3 PM, Blue was safely released to the 15th floor nest ledge. Sue Hannon reports that one of the rehabbers at Red Creek shared Blue and Green are among the feistiest falcon fledglings he's worked with. Blue's energetic and vocal behavior upon release certainly bore that out - which is just how it should be!

Thank you for all reports here. I cannot believe it is that time already. So glad they are being watched.
Will continue to check in

:5val: Not seeing anyone now, but here's why:

6/22/2023 :: Blue takes flight!
After regrouping on the nest ledge for nearly two days after her return from Red Creek, Blue took to the sky around 12:30 PM today. Her first flight carried her over top of the University to the roof of Strawberry Square. After a brief rest, she flew back to the roof of RCSOB before taking off for a round of aerial play with her brothers. After a prolonged flight, she came to rest on top of 333. Now that she has claimed her legacy of flight, and joined her brothers atop the city's tallest building, the sky's the limit for the Harrisburg Three!

Falcon Watch & Rescue will continue through tomorrow to be sure that all three young peregrines have achieved the ability to gain height, sustain flight, and consistently land on target.

The juvies spent most of the rainy morning sitting, although Green and Yellow flew around some. When the rain let up all three ended up on top of 333 Market, the highest building in Harrisburg. Green and Yellow were flying loops around 333 playing tail tag. Blue watched from 333. Around 5:00 one of the adults flew toward the nest ledge with prey. I think it was Niner. One of the juvies tried to grab it from her talons, but she took it to the nest ledge. That was all Blue needed to fly back over to the ledge from the top of 333. All of this happened RIGHT above our heads, as we were sitting in front of the Carson Building. Such an amazing thing to see. As of today, our official watches have ended as we know they can fly well. Praying that they stay out of trouble.

That was Yellow Boy on the stick a while ago. He has always liked the stick. I have never seen Green sit there. Blue kind of tried but didn't get the whole way out.
