Not sure if I can continue to watch. I am afraid the end is near. Maybe a blessing. :-(

:15heartbeat: Took a quick break and am unsure if the head I see poking out from under Niecey is still #5 or another chick has moved and is now in the spot #5 was before I left. But did just see some head movement. This head looks to be too large to be #5 and I think #5's head is under this chick possibly. Chick #5's head is under this one and it just tried to raise its head. The 1 chick moved and now chick #5 can be seen again and is moving some. It's having/doing a "rowing" type movement of its left wing and sometimes leg at the same time, occasionally. Has gone into a slightly more upright position. Then turned more toward Niecey's core. Niecey just tucked it further under her. Will try to watch when Niecey gets up again. It is now 6:38 pm.

:15heartbeat: Saw 85 flying the skies. Niecey went out. Niecey back with the prey she received from 85 and in to feed the chicks. Chick #5 is head 1st under the chick pile and the others are all standing waiting to be fed. Feeding was over and Niecey had them all gathered under her and brooding by 6:58. Chick #5 never got up during the feed, saw some occasional movement and the tip of its right wing flap up once, but it remained in the prone position throughout.

Thanks for the coverage. Glad I can't get this cam...I just can't watch this stuff anymore. Just so sad that survival of one that hatches so late is so unfair. I think this is why I stopped watching barn owls...so rare that the youngest ever made it..hatching last...at no fault of its own...I always want intervention and thats not gonna happen. :girlsad3:

:15heartbeat: Came in on a feeding already in progress. All got bites including Niecey. Did not see #5. This is actually the 2nd feed this morning. The 1st one was around 6 per FB.

:15heartbeat: From cam 1 right now, can see most of chick #5's body to the left of the chick pile and there is no movement. Niecey is atop the front wall.

Not that it changes anything, but I cannot bear to watch right now. I did have a quick peak earlier. It is possible that Niecey will remove him/her from the scrape.

:sorrow: Awhile ago Niecey did remove chick #5 from the nest. She did this after feeding 3 of the 4. One chick did not seem interested and never got up.

:girlsad3: I came in and Niecey was defeathering getting ready to feed. I noticed 1 of the older, larger, chicks against the far wall (cam 2) and away from the chick pile. It was watching Niecey and the others, but making no effort to join the group. Niecey started the feed and the others were getting bites while this one was opening its beak to be fed, but still no effort to go to the group. Finally it started toward the group slowly and seem to struggle some in doing so. I remember the chick from the previous feed that made no attempt to get up and be fed as the others and wondered if this is the same chick, but I have no idea. It never made it to the group and from cam 1 you could see it was still too far away.

Niecey left to stash the remains and when she returned it was still opening its beak to be fed. Finally it made it to the group enough to lay its head across 1 of the other chicks in the pile. From cam 1, you can see its butt to the left of Niecey currently as she shields them. While against the wall, I noticed its feathers did not seem as white and full as the others, but this could be because of the distance. I don't know, but it bears watching...

:girlsad3: This chick did get bites this meal, but I am still uneasy with what I am seeing. From cam 1 when Niecey came in with prey the chicks were in a pile. They all got up to be fed except for the one I am concentrating on. Then in a bit it did raise up and the spot it was made it well positioned to receive bites and that it did voraciously. It got several bites then slumped a little, but still possibly supported by the others in the pile. I started seeing some head drooping at times, then it turned and it is the one who did the PS. Then it did some more head drooping at times and never tried for bites the remainder of the feed. It stayed in the same place with more head drooping at times and possibly supported up somewhat by the others in the group. Niecey left and they all piled together, then she came back.

:girlsad3: While I was finishing up the above, Niecey has come back with more food and is feeding. The chick I am concerned about is within the pile right now, but not eating and its head is drooped! I think this chick may be ill...

Since I posted that last sentence, this chick did go on to raise its head 4 times and take at least 1-2 bites each time. Then Niecey left and now all are in food comas. Will continue to keep an eye on it as possible and hope that nothing is actually wrong.

I have not seen a feeding at all today. I get so angry with 85 sitting there looking around, Am going out for a bit. Maybe there will be a feeding when I return. I do have concerns about this Avian Flu that is going around.

:15heartbeat: Niecey just finished another feed and it took her awhile, but it looks as if all are finally under her and she is brooding. Came in on the feed that was already in progress. All 4 chicks got bites. I had lost the position of the 1 that I was concerned about earlier, only know that it is not the oldest nor the youngest, but 1 of the middle 2. When I came in, 1 of those 2 was in front from cam 1 view and was turned the wrong way and did not make an attempt to turn toward Niecey initially, however when it did it was getting bites and even going up on its legs sometimes to secure those bites. The other middle chick was at the back and difficult to see this view. It also got bites, but went out of the feed sooner than I thought it would. Will continue to watch and hoping all is well.

I saw most of that recent feeding. I believe they were all very hungry and would have liked more. But that is probably the last feeding until tomorrow unless 85 comes through with a bedtime snack. Not expecting that to happen, though. Oh, how I miss Little Dad.

:15heartbeat: A feeding finished up several minutes ago. I believe this is at least their 2nd feeding this morning, although I didn't see the 1st one. I came in and the feeding looked to be well in progress. The chicks were in a cuddle puddle as she fed with 2 facing away from her. Three of the 4 got bites as she fed the one backwards. She left with part of a wing I thought she was going to stash, but she came back in with it and to the other side of the pile. She gave 1 who I had already seen get bites a bite, then had some bites for herself. I don't know if the one chick who was facing the wrong way and down in the center of the pile received bites before I came in. She plucked feathers from another piece of wing to tidy up and then brooded the chicks.
