:flirty: Yellow is taking a rest on the floor of the nest, while one of his sisters admires herself in a window nearby and another stands at the side lip preening.

Thanks for kind thoughts about losing dear Blue. There was nothing we could have done to prevent this. Check Falcon Wire from May 30 for updates.

:15heartbeat: Jane, as of right now there is no entry on "Falcon Wire" for the 30th. Last entry is 5/28. Right now, I think I can see 2 in front of the column and sometimes it looks to be three, but very unsure there is a 3rd one there.

:eggthumb: One juvie by the orange post and 85 on the point, then eventually the stick.

:15heartbeat: Jane, to not say who fledges is one thing, but to not let us know Niecey was injured is quite another...

FALCONWIRE
5/31/2022 :: One Wild Weekend!
2022 has proved to be a challenging year for monitoring the Rachel Carson State Office Building (RCSOB) peregrine falcons as the youngsters fledge (take their first flights). The demise of the young falcon banded Blue was previously documented. The third fledgling marked Green took some small flights on May 30. On May 31, Green was rescued twice, once from the balcony located on the 16th floor of the RCSOB and a second time when, attempting to land at the top of 333 Market Street, Green didn't gain enough height, and came down to the ground. Once again, a rescue was performed and there were no signs of injury. This falcon was then transported to the roof of the RCSOB and released.
Beginning on May 28, it was discovered that the resident female, banded 48/AE, was injured, and perched in an inaccessible location on top of the Harrisburg Transportation Center. Fortunately, during the evening of May 30, 48/AE dropped to the ground and a successful rescue was performed. Currently, this falcon is at Red Creek Wildlife Center and is being treated for dehydration and burnt feet from the hot roof she was perched on. After x-rays, more will be known about 48/AE's condition and she will be treated accordingly. The Falcon Watch and Rescue Volunteers, especially Patrick Miller, a licensed falconer and environmental educator at Refreshing Mountain Retreat and Adventure Center, and Peggy Hentz from Red Creek Wildlife Center, deserve special recognition for their expert handling of 48/AE.
That leaves one remaining fledgling (Red) that has yet to take wing. Stay tuned as more is sure to follow!

Apparently, the male is feeding Red, fortunately!

:flirty: Here's 4 photos showing one of Green's rescues.

Total of 4 photos, advance using right arrow after clicking on the 1st photo of the man holding Green with the blue gloves on. (Will show on individual large screen that way.) From "Falcon Chatter on Twitter".

Edited to show: Green's rescue not Niecey's as I had previously reported.

Thanks Swinwk...unfortunately, all I found was Green's (?) rescue from the balcony. I'll keep looking.

:sum8: Sky, OMG! I wasn't paying attention, I will correct. All I can think about is her right now! Sorry! I'd even noticed she looked a little brown. No wonder I'd never seen her looking like that...

This is a capable male so he will feed the kids and train them. I have liked this male from the beginning.

I am very sad to hear about Niecey. Hopefully her injuries are not severe.
A big thank you to the boots on the ground and the rescuer who handled Niecey.

I know how stressful this is for watchers on ground. I also know how stressful it is for one of adults to be injured. Years back at U of A , our fabulous male , was found on ground, injured quite badly. He was believed to be in a fight , defending his crew.
I was on watch that year. Radisson had to step up to plate and take charge.
It may be an idea , for those in charge to scatter some quail on ledge, through that window, when no one is around. Our biologist did this at U of A.

Hopefully things go well on all accounts. They worked out at U of A and , our adult male beat all odds and recovered, worked with a falconer and was released at migration time

:flirty: Just saw 85 land on the ledge near the juvie that was lying beside the orange post to check on it, but he had to fly to the point in a hurry as the juvie got up and lunged toward him. Hearing juvie wails now.

I believe I said before that I am only a volunteer, and I will not pass on information until an official announcement has been made. The person who writes the Falcon Wire posts has many other things to do, and is likely overwhelmed with everything. We have no idea how Niecey was injured, and am really grateful for those involved with her rescue.

What a heartbreaking year this has been for Harrisburg. I hate that Niecey has been injured, especially after losing Lil' Dad. Such sadness. I didn't really watch because it was hard to know that I wouldn't see him, and now, in a way, I'm glad I didn't. Nevertheless, I still feel the pain for this nest. I have read the comments. Thanks to all of you looking out for this sight, for many years. I sure hope that Niecey will fully recover and the remaining chicks will be healthy and live long lives and have many chicks. .

:15heartbeat: Updates on Niecey, Red who fledged yesterday and Green from the "Falcon Wire":

2022
6/1/2022 :: Watch and Rescue update
Tuesday was another busy day of the 2022 Falcon Watch and Rescue. Following two separate rescues the fledgling marked Green is currently perched on the back of Harrisburg University. She is being actively monitored in case her next flight doesn't go well.

Early yesterday afternoon Red fledged around 2 pm and ended up on the ground near the Capital steps. After rescue, it was decided that due to potential dehydration issues and potential stress, this fledgling was delivered to Red Creek Wildlife Center. Red will be returned to the Rachel Carson State Office Building (RCSOB) when ready. These precautions are impacted by the extreme temperatures forecasted for today.

The latest update from Red Creek Wildlife Center on 48/AE (resident female) indicates she is recovering well and is again her active self. Again, to be cautious, 48/AE will be x-rayed today with the hope no fractures are detected.

Additional updates will be provided as more becomes known about her condition.

:eggthumb: 85 was on the edge of the ledge in front of the nest and a juvie was mantling in front of the column, so Dad has delivered a meal. I think I am hearing this one wail and possibly one further away, but sometimes I am unsure if I am just hearing an echo. I saw 85 look toward the top of the column, so wondering if a juvie is up there. 85 flew after the juvie brought his or her prey in front of the nest. That juvie is now eating, but didn't stop mantling till Dad left and I hear no wailing.

85 is doing a good job. Yesterday he beak fed Yellow on top of the Carson Building. This afternoon we watched Yellow make an extended soaring flight way out over the train station. it was awesome to see. I will say that Green was safe and sound when I left before it got too dark. Others were still there watching. This heat for the past two days has been awful.
