It has not been easy to watch, for sure SGB. She seems to be chipping away at the shell some, maybe trying to help it.

I haven't had much luck seeing anything. I sent Umass a message...and David G. sent Richard Nathorst a message. David posted that UMass Wildlife and Richard are aware. Question will be on whether they can get permission to intervene. (my assumption, not David's)

Poor success in Massachusetts nests this year. Maybe that will be a motivation (again, my assumption)

Pretty sure mom was trying to feed the chick in the egg this morning. The egg wasn't turned so that I could see if it was alive in there. Very sad to watch.

I saw that also ljames.

I have seen this happen a few times before. sometimes it eventually gets out and sometimes not. some fmeales will intervene an d chip away and some will not

Saw that too...

I believe there is a second pipped egg...but, didn't get a good pic.

So sad...same thing happened this year at Manchester....that chick tried so hard and it just couldn't get out. Looked exactly like this egg. Still hoping it can get out or that somebody intervenes...

gotta head to work, so not able to watch anymore today...fingers crossed.

Mom just got off for a few. Baby is still alive. I could see its beak move, ever so slightly. I really couldn't tell the progress of that egg. Let me see if I have a decent pic.
