This morning - after we had all carried out a corona rapid test - we went to the roof of the SLT107. When we got to the top with the elevator, the falcon parents had long been startled and circled the tower to loud protest.

Our very first action was to seal the opening of the nest box with a cardboard box and cloth to ensure that no chick panicked into the depths. Then we could open the back flap on the nest box and get the falcon chicks out. The protest was limited and they all came together in a box.

One by one they were ringed, measured and examined. The tongs look nasty, but they have all the safeguards so that they don't close completely and the hawks are not injured. Every falcon now has two rings. The identification ring on the right leg and the habitat ring on the left leg - I will explain the rings in more detail in the next few days. During the examination it was also clearly visible that there are three male and one female falcon chicks. To be weighed, they then had to put them in the jute bag - usually under protest. The three boys all weigh almost 600 grams and the girl 760 grams, all four are healthy and developing well. During the examinations, the falcon chicks are given a cloth over their heads, as they then become calmer and have to worry less, and of course everything is precisely documented.

While the falcon chicks were ringed and examined, Friedemann and Philipp checked the technology. Herbert has taken on the nest box and tidied it up and "pimped it up" again. Thank you, Herbert !!! I preferred to film and write the blog now. When the camera was cleaned at the end, the quartet was able to return to the now neat nest box and calm returned.
