So I've been reading up on Sea Eagles and while they have not been studied as much as the Lesser Spotted Eagle, from what I've read it appears they are a species that engages in "cainism". It was brought up just now in chat and the mods are saying it won't happen because the chicks hatched close together and there is abundant food supply. I am hoping they are right.

Thanks for the video, Mick...they are just precious. I did not know that about them. I certainly hope that doesn't happen at this nest.

Someone posted this video on the Facebook Page and I thought I'd post it here...WOW..

So are our videos beans! See previous page.

:teehee:

Good news! This pair successfully raised two chicks last year. ( I am referring to the info about "cainism" on the previous page) Whew! really glad to read that. I'm still keeping talons crossed!

Oh, Mick! You filmed the wrestling/tussle, too! They are so tiny and don't really have the energy to do much pecking. I sort of feel like that at the end of the day.

Liked the National Geographic video, too!

Hi beans. I sure hope it goes no further than mild skirmishes. They have really cute faces!
I bet you do feel like that at the end of the day. I admire your video making; to keep four channels thriving is impressive.

Nat'l Geo Vid is a good find SGB. Thank you for sharing it!

I was over to see the Eagles & I think something is wrong here the one isn't moving and there is talk about a pigeon brought in and more or less put it the bowl with the chicks and now it is moved out and the one I think they said S1 isn't moving or not seen :gaaaaah:

From the chat this am:

~Sadly S1 has died. We think it suffocated, when a dead pidgeon ended up in the nest bowl. S2, however, is doing well.

From annekevdakker. A compilation of the final hours. It's hard to tell what really happened. Anne says in her description that the eaglet didn't raise it's head to eat and possibly was weak before the pigeon remains were drawn into the bowl.

Well I had to go to sleep but I see that it was the pigeon being placed on the chicks that is the cause,
this is sad I had just read beans report about an hour earlier about only one usually survives and as I was reading this happened :cryinggirl:

Thanks, Mick, for documenting this sad accident. It gives us a kind of closure to know what caused S1's death.

Video: Baby Sea Eaglet Dies

This eaglet survived, but his sibling passed away yesterday. Viewers watching the cam believe he was S1 and that he smothered under a dead pigeon dragged into the nest. It has been very rainy, and I think hypothermia played a part in his death. When this video was recorded, the temperature was 59 Fahrenheit (15 Celsius) in Sydney, and it was raining the night before. The remaining eaglet looks wet and cold. Mom snuggled him under her warm feathers by the end of the video. I hope he survives.

Recorded August 20, 7:40 AM, local time

1st egg: 7/4
2nd egg: 7/7
1st hatch: 8/14
2nd hatch: 8/15
1 eaglet dies 8/19
