Ploughboy, I wish they would!!!!

A Hancock Forum member asked what the round nest platform is made of. I answered her question and thought maybe someone here would also be interested in the answer and reason that type of nest is used.

The nests are made of fiberglass and have drain holes in the bottom, they cost $500.00. That type of nest is used to keep the Monk Parakeets from getting into the nest. The parakeets have parasites that can spread disease to the ospreys.

I'd let go with an appropriate swear word regarding the crappy weather but might get bounced! :tearhair

Just hope all goes OK...feel badly for parents, especially, Mama, because I know she will do everything in her power to protect her chicks.

I just received this email from Sparky at the nest and told her I would post it...keep your eyes OPEN!!!

"We had a vicious, driving rain storm this afternoon....gusts up to 60 mph hours and temps in the 40s.
It ended at 4:00. I immediately saw both parents feeding two babies....couldn't see a third.... mom is settled back in now...

Hi Sparky

Annie took this picture yesterday just after the storm at 04:05 pm (ET) and you can see all the three chicks there.

There was just a fish delivery; however, PB is acting up so I can't upload my pic--will upload it later if possible. I could see 3 little heads popping up for food...

Glad you were able to see all three, Jazzel and catwoman - I wasn't sure. I had a good look at two and thought I saw movement that might have been a third but never got a clear look.

I am wondering if this is a relatively young pair or a new Dad - it's great to see such a big fish, but it's downright dangerous to have it flapping around in the nest when the chicks are so small - something most Dads figure out fairly early on.

(I just logged off, Beth - too much eagle action today to be able to watch these little ones for long - so maybe there's an opening now. ;) )

This male seems to recognize no smaller fishes. :duh: ;)

In live picture none of three baby ospreys were missing, they all were eager up to fish. There could be also seen the tiny wings of those two bigger babys. :loveheart2: I'm sorry that these pictures aren't so clear as I hope they were.

After a while they had stopped eating, the male was back and brought the rest of the fish away.
