Very impressed with the mayor's caring actions, actually. As I'm sure we all are. Hoping the mechanical difficulty does not lie within the cam itself! Miss it...

I understand... Also, hoping the cam is up and on line very soon :openrose:

The 5:30 pm feeding, all three chicks fed, but the little one is very light in color, odd, may be just the lighting? Any thoughts on this?

Did some fast research on progression of osprey chicks' "coloring". Not sure it answers your question, Jazzel...now I'm wondering, too, why the third chick is so much lighter in color. Doesn't appear, from my view, to be the angle of the photo...but I suspect someone may know.

Quote:
When osprey chicks hatch, they are covered in white down with brown streaks on the face, back, and wings. This is replaced by charcoal-colored down after approximately 10 days. Feathers begin to replace the down at approximately two weeks.

MaryG ..This is the reason I question the light color of this nestling. This bird is two weeks old today, nutrition ? We can find the answers....nice to have someone looking with me  At the moment, I'm looking for a lot of answers on Osprey issues ....great to have some help :openrose:

From one of my mentors, and our forum member, JudyB, posted on the Hancock forum

Happy hatch day, little one!

The color - umm - it's not as tanned?

This is Marcia's pic from Milford CT in 2008 - the smallest one was about a week and a half - so slightly younger - but similarly light in color. Not sure I can find a pic at 2 weeks old, but I'm guessing he still won't have his pre-teen coloring by then.

Judy, thanks....I know you could find a pic at 2 weeks old...lazy lady :laugh :bow

2008 was a terrific year at Connecticut Audubon with the 4 chicks all fledging. Hope they have been able to fix cam for a 2010 happening...wonderful view.

Great video, Ploughboy. Little guy is starting to prove he is no shrinking violet! :yip

MaryG, looks like the Connecticut cam will be working.

Sherri, on the Maine forum posted this 12/11/09

"Update on new cam installation:

They didn't install it as they were going to in September.
The good news is that (supposedly) it is going to be mounted on the building so whenever they decide to do it, it shouldn't interfere with osprey activity."

Posted on Connecticut Audubon's Home page.

• Our live Osprey Cam will be back starting mid-March 2010.
