Hi all. Wanted to post an update to my dear Swiss owlets. Looks like mom ended up with 3 of the 5 eggs hatching and surviving? :egghatch: :egghatch: :egghatch: I do not have the translator on my laptop because it slows it down, but thats what it looks like in the swiss blog page. Hard to get a pic this year, it looks like the view is zoomed out a little further then last year. But heres a shot of what might be (?) one larger wht owlet and 2 smaller wht owlets all in a little pileup by mom? Im sure those of you with recording stuff can get a better shot. Im just glad she has the 3! Cant wait for them to get big enough to be running around the box, good shots then :) check them out! :girlluv:

I wish I could tell how many are here. There were 7 eggs ... then I was sure there were 4 owlets ... but sometimes it looks like only 3 ...

I am very sorry to have to tell you all that a huge snake got into the TX box and choked Wing. The babies are mostly gone, but there is a chance that Wing got out when the grip on her was released. At least we are hoping. The horrific image is seared into my brain. Why couldn't I look away... :-(

the older schopfuggerli owlets are in that fluffball chick stage, they remind me of a chick(baby chicken)

Paula...that is absolutely Horrible!!! I remember witnessing such an incident several years ago with barn swallows (and even cardinal babies at my own house)...thankfully, the mom got away...but all babes were lost..

I just came back from reading the blog at Cornell (I don't have time to backtrack thru it all)..but Wing is ok..and She and Jack have even been seen mating...according to some of the posts, the snake was forcefully removed from the box..

So sad for Wing and Jack, but now they may start over with a new clutch. Plenty of mating going on. Also, have been watching my swiss owls and thought we had 3 that had survived hatching, couldnt read their german, dont have the translator on my laptop since I heard it slows them down. Well, I checked today, and mom was a little bit farther away in the nestbox from the owlets, and they have moved out from under her when they can, so I got a good clear look. Okay, how many owlets can you count? I am shocked, and surprised!! :egghatch: :egghatch: :egghatch: :egghatch: :egghatch:
Someone please post your count, I am afraid my eyes are deceiving me! Thanks :eastergirl:

yay kittenface!!! :D I believe that the schopfuggerli owlets.... do not rasp! They are incredibly well fed, spoiled and doted on :D

upon further observation, it looks like the owlets might talk to eachother (by rasping?) but I don;t think they rasp for food

comparision of schopfuggerli and nicasio owls, they're about the same age, you can see what the nicasio owls look like up close, and see what the other ones look like in full color.

You'll get a reallly good close-up of owlets in the fuzzball chick stage in about a week or so at the kerkuil cam.

the youngest schoppfuggerli owlet... is highly mobile! and is assertive about trying to get the rodent, other owlets must watch out for him.

Hi everyone! Can someone post the link to the Beleef de Lente barn owl cam, or let me know how many hatches there were? I'm trying to update the calendar & need to get the info! Thanks!
