Lake Fairlee Loon cam has been down.
Beaver? Dont know.
Reported 2 eggs but unsure.
Cam will not be back for 2025 - cable broken too close to nest.
A huge beaver probly chomped thru it
Too bad - this is the most beautiful loon cam

Loons still incubating, but the hatch window is closed, no sign of pip - or peep.
LCO blames new pair, new female mate.

Female Loon was Captured, Banded
Removed Fishing Hook from her beek
Retrieved Nonviable Eggs

Today LPC was able to capture the female loon and took her by boat to a dock to work on removing a fishing hook that has been caught in her nostril for weeks. They wrapped her in a towel and also banded her tonight.

LPC went by boat to the raft nest and retrieved the 2 eggs for analysis. They will xray the eggs to help determine what happened to them. Analysis findings will be shared in the LPC newsletter.

The cam cable broke so we had no cam or news til today.

Two eggs hatched.
One chick seems to have disappeared as of yesterday.

LOON LORE
Less than 30% of loon eggs result in live chick surviving.
Eggs dont hatch, predator gets eggs or chick, etc.

Bald Eagle Seen on rock nearby
SPLASH!! Female loon Jumps into Water and speeds off.
She and male vocalize from far away from nest - to distract eagle.
After while male seen next to raft - he appeared to be behind - where eagle wouldnt see him.

I edited video a bit. I watched this LIVE. We were tense.
Female made no sound leaping into water - wing-rowed off - really bookin it.
Tremolos and wails heard from distance.
Cam panned to eagle sitting on rock out in the lake.
He finally flew off.
I saw female alert - stare at eagle - HIGH ALERT!
I didnt know what she alerted to for half hour or so.
