:1wavingsnowgirl: Short video from Lori Covert of CROW at nest examining the chicks and removing the fishing line with hook. Connie can be heard in background.

I’m thrilled to announce that the winning names are: Peace and Hope! The little guy known as “patch” who had the fishing line wrapped around shall be Peace. And the rather chunky eaglet with the fluffy head (who I suspect may be a female) shall be named Hope. Once again, than you so much for all of your suggestions and your heartwarming notes. I’m looking forward to sharing Peace and Hope with all of you in 2021!

:flirty: The size difference makes it easy to tell these two apart! Good to see how well they are doing.

Hey all, very sad day... this is the side of nature that isn't fun... I'm going to pause the PTZ streams to do some investigations. If we are to do a necropsy, we have to have solid evidence to bring to USFWS that this was not a natural occurrence but a man made occurrence. Only at that point will they give us permission to go up in the nest. If there is anything of note on review, it will be recorded and sent to a team of veterinarians. I'll update you guys soon!

Beth, do you have a link to this blog? I can not find it. Also, may see "Circle of Life" soon as several minutes ago, Joe (?) picked lightly at several times, but no disruption so far. Hope seemed eager to eat at the time, even though she has a crop.

:15heartbeat: Thanks, Beth! I had heard the speculation on rat poisoning from someone who said they saw one of the parents bring in a rat and feed. They felt Peace had not done well since and contributed the difference in the eaglets weight to this. I do not follow this nest daily and missed all that. But no necropsy means we'll never know if this was in fact so.

From Connor at AEF
"Update: We were not able to find any signs or objects of a man-made nature that lead to Peace’s untimely departure. There are a lot of speculations as to what could have caused this, but as of right now, it is pointing to a failure to thrive. We wish we could find out more by doing a necropsy on Peace, but we do not have solid evidence to bring USFWS to get the permission. Even more importantly, we don’t want to put Hope or the parents in any danger by going up there.
What we can take away from this, is to be more responsible with our fishing line and tackle and to not use rodenticides. We recommend using good nature automatic rodent traps. We’ve found this to be the best solution for rodent control.
This is not how we wanted our 2021 cam season to start, but it makes me appreciate all the eaglets we have seen fledge and thrive. Thank you all for the information, videos, pictures, your help with this, and above all, your love for these eagles!"
It is very windy and nest tree swaying. Hope needs to hunker down. :15heartbeat:
