Pa to the nest at 1:47 this afternoon. Shortly, Mom could be heard screaming in the background, then she arrived on the nest. Together they alerted and reacted to an intruder flying over the nest and a couple times Pa flew out to give chase. Unfortunately, the AC was down and we were only able to see quick shadows as it flew over. They did light aeration and picking at the bowl and moved sticks around. Mom was here almost an hour and Pa flew out for the last time at 2:53.

The Berry's are in! Mom at 12:17 with light, fussy vocals and Pa at 12:18. They seem to be watchful as if an intruder is in the area.

The 1st visit is about to go off the DVR. Pa to the LB at 3:51 with Mom arriving to a rear branch shortly. Both alerting and watchful. So probably an intruder nearby. They picked about the bowl and nest. Pa left just under 20 minutes and Mom a little sooner than that. 5:08 Mom returns to the nest looking around. Soon to the LB where she calls out. She flew after about a 2-minute total stay. 5:53 Pa to the nest with a gift for Mom who lands shortly and took it from him. It's a very long squirrel hide that she gulps down immediately whole. 5:58 Mom flew and Pa followed her out.

7:16 Pa to the nest. Soon Mom could be heard screaming in the background. 7:25 Mom to the nest. They picked about the bowl for a bit. 7:28 Mom flew. 7:29 Pa flew. 9:28 Pa with a stick he places to the rail. 9:31 Pa flew!

After Mom left the prey on the nest Saturday week ago, she didn't return to eat it nor did Pa come in. Overnight Rocky showed up and was eating from the prey remains. He worked on it off and on all night. But the interesting thing was to see another flying squirrel show up on the nest during Rocky's feast. They got into a fight on the nest and Rocky was able to chase it off. Then later on I actually saw 3 Rockys at one time on the nest and a branch. Soon 2 Rockys were eating at least for a minute on the prey at the same time, just opposite ends of it. The next morning Pa was chasing an intruder overhead per the AC. He must have noticed the prey on their nest from overhead as when he was finished with his chase, he returned to the nest landing beside it and started eating. He didn't eat all of it. At some point Mom came in and for the 1st time I could tell it was a long rabbit pelt. Mom gulped it down in 1 attempt. For the rest of the week both came in daily with Pa especially showing up before the IR went off in the early mornings. He may return 1-2 more times and she may return for an extra visit on some of those days. Mainly Pa and sometimes with Mom a nest check was done right before dark in the evening. A small limb was brought in maybe once a day for the most part or not at all. Mom brought in a larger limb one of those days, but it went overboard. I only saw 2 small fluff deliveries last week. They just are not working on the nest as you would expect them to. The nest floor is not springy and the bowl is not built up as you would expect it to be at egg time. Other than her 1st season when she arrived for the 1st time toward the last of November and her eggs were not laid till January her 1st egg dates have been between 12/5 and 12/13. Mom didn't show up yesterday (Sunday), but Pa did at least once for a short visit. Today (12/9 Monday) it was rainy at intervals and this is what happened:

3:18 Mom to nest and aerates bowl a few seconds, then toward left rail and stood. 3:21 To LB. 4:02 Pa to nest and aerates bowl till Mom showed signs of leaving. 4:05 Mom flew. Pa watched, then eventually moved toward rails. 4:06 Pa on left rails. 4:07 Pa flew. 4:07:33 Welcoming vocals between the two could be heard from where they are perched in the rear out of sight.

I forgot to add above that I saw them mate on the left branch 3 times last week. What reminded me was Pa and Mom have already been in this morning and yep, they mated on the left branch!

1:55 Pa to the nest followed in by Mom. They aerate the bowl. Then Pa stood in the bowl that seems to be getting deeper. 1:58 Mom to left branch. 1:59 She flew, Pa watched her go. Then he continued to stand in the bowl until 2:02 when he went to the left branch and flew out.

5:20 Mom to the nest. She gleaned scraps from the previous prey, otherwise she stood and looked around. Occasionally she called out in a somewhat whiny vocal. 5:26 Mom flew.

7:04 Mom to the nest and aerates the bowl a little. 7:07 To the left branch. She calls out softly with her whiny vocals that are always noticeable with her around egg time. Should be soon, still hoping it will be here. 7:34 She flew!

10:38 Pa to the left branch. Looking around. He stayed for over an hour.

5:24 Pa to the nest to look around. 5:31 He flew.

18:05 Mom to the nest She aerated the bowl a little. 18:06 To the left branch and calls out. 6:07 To the nest to glean prey bits from the floor. 6:08 Back to the left branch. 6:10 She flew to the middle, left branch and landed off cam. She seemed to be getting her bearings as it is dark now. 6:11 She flew out toward the rear. No welcoming vocals heard.

7:05 Mom to the nest. She stands around looking, then aerates the bowl. She put her chest down in it, then brought fluff around while crouched in it. She is vocal at intervals. 7:11 She walks up the left branch. She fluffs up and continues soft vocals at intervals. 7:30 Back to the bowl and aerates. 7:32 To the left rails and flew seconds later.

Unfortunately, all 3 cams down at 8:04 am. It has been reported to Berry.

9:17 Cams back up. Mom is on left branch and vocal at intervals. 9:54 Mom flew.

11:02 Pa to the nest with Mom following in. They aerate the bowl for several minutes, then stood. More aeration. 11:11 Mom toward left rear rails and stood. 11:12 Mom up on rails and flew to a left rear branch. She was lightly vocal a couple times. 11:13 She flew down and under toward the right and Pa watched her go. 11:15 Pa to the left rear rails and stood looking around. 11:16 He flew out to the left.

4:03 Pa to the nest. He aerated the bowl and moved out debris, then stood. 4:23 He got in the bowl and kicked back against it to hollow it out more, then down for a rest and he brought fluff toward his chest. 4:28 He stood and looked around. 5:19 Finally after just standing all that time, Pa moved to the bowl and aerates. Seconds later we see why he decided to act busy as Mom arrived to the nest. He continued to aerate as Mom crouched near the bowl. 5:23 Pa toward the left rear rails, then flew. Mom watched him go, then got up. Mom to the left rails. 5:24 Mom flew.

Mom watched to see where he went. She moved a little fluff around, then stood. 4:04 Mom to the left rear rails. 4:06 Mom flew.

5:11 Pa to the nest with a hunk of prey. Mom could be heard screaming and comes in seconds later and takes the prey to eat. Pa worked on the bowl, then stood. 5:17 Mom finished the prey piece then gleaned the floor for any remaining bits. Pa worked on the bowl some more, then moved a stick on the rails to a better location. Both glean the floor where Mom had eaten for more remaining bits. 5:21 Pa to the rear rails and feaks. Mom spreads some fluff across the floor. Pa moved toward the left rear rails. He flew toward the right rear seconds later. Mom aerates the bowl more and moves fluff around, then gleans the floor again. 5:28 Mom to the left rear rails and flew seconds later in the same direction Pa had. No welcoming vocals heard.
