Oh my. Romeo and Juliet will be missed, but eagle life goes on. :15heartbeat: Wonder if this pair will have chicks of their own...

still have my talons crossed that Romeo returns. hope ground crew has luck spotting him. because I only occasionally dabble here, I would not know if it was Romeo or a different male . But my heart is heavy.

I loved the dynamics of this nest and they had 10 wonderful years on cam. hopefully whatever unfolds , hearts will mend and be open to all the possibilities. hugs all around :15heartbeat:

Hi Bev:

Postings of AEF say it wasn't Romeo who appeared todays early morning with New adult female and began nestoration works.

12/28/2018 7:37:24 12/28/2018 7:10:00 AM Two Adult Eagles
Arrival/Nest Work/Perching
6:40am Vocals are heard and an adult eagle arrives on a branch. This one has dark spots on the back of her/his head and appears to be the same one from yesterday. 6:53am S/he sounds the vocals, moves into the nest and aerates the fluff. Within a few minutes another adult eagle joins him/her. They appear to be the same pair from yesterday and they continue working on the nest. They seem familiar with each other as they work side by side, bickering with each other as they pull on the moss and rearrange some sticks. 7:02am The eagle with the spots on his/her head marches up to Sunset Branch, perches for a short while and returns to the nest. They continue with what looks like "nestorations". The spotted one goes back and forth to Sunset Branch but always returning to the nest with the other eagle. 7:32am The spotted one flies out to a branch while the other eagle continues working on the nest. It appears that Romeo and Juliet's egg has been buried under the fluff. earlybird_AEF

Users in Looduskalender-Forum are exellent watchers and they share AEF NEFL Eagle Nest Chat more as I do (I do not participate in chats) but I trust those AEF Mods & Looduskalender users. Let's enjoy the new pair and wait what will happen with their breeding attemps. Nature goes forward and we shouldt follow those devellopments as long as we have the privilege to follow web cam streams - as guests only -.

Sigh...with the nesting season over for Romeo, I suppose this was going to happen. He was last seen in the Hamlet on the afternoon of 12/26. I pray that Juliet lives on and merely chose to stay out of the fray of females, as it was too much for her. I would like to believe that once Romeo knew his job was done at the nest, he reunited with her and both have left for their summer home or greener pastures. With a new pair of eagles here, I doubt Romeo & Juliet will be able to move back next year, but who knows. Perhaps we will have eaglets here after all with this young couple. Life does go on. Thank you for the updates.

I'm with you Nadia
I think Romeo knew where Juliet was
I felt he was calling to her on several different occasions
I believe they have flown off together.

It does appear a new pair will nest
I dont think they prepare unless she plans to lay eggs

thanks Ferenz.

just reposting my earleir words on the topic

I loved the dynamics of this nest and they had 10 wonderful years on cam. hopefully whatever unfolds , hearts will mend and be open to all the possibilities. hugs all around :15heartbeat:

we will see this more and more with eagles and falcons as pairs age. It is hard but it is nature. It is always harder for those who monitor cams closely ,and especially hard for those who monitor from the ground. I know, as I monitor from the ground, so my heart goes out to Gretchen.
I also know that just because we do not see romeo or Juliet, does not mean they are not around or met their demise, but they will probably move on and just maybe find a site not too far away. ( i have witnessed many a fight, with falcons, and see them lose their site and have seen many of these re nest elsewhere( easier , when you have bands to id them)

so I will be off for a bit but may everyone here, have an open heart to who ever nests here. :15heartbeat:

:1snowmancarrot: Thanks Bev and hugs right back at ya. After so many yrs, it's hard to accept that Romeo and Juliet's time at this nest has probably come to a close. Making room for youth and strength. The circle of life. Watching the struggle these past 2 wks was heart wrenching, but we should remember that Romeo and Juliet led successful eagle lives. Together, they raised 19 eaglets in that decade. Many don't get that far. I'm anxious to see what this young couple will bring to the Hamlet. Who knows, maybe one of them is offspring from years past. We know Delila has visited the nest. When they leave as fledglings, we always hope for the best...for them to make their way in the world, find a significant other, and raise families of their own.

I think AEF has done a terrific job keeping everyone informed, sharing their own grief, and allowing a forum for questions and answers with experts. Kudos to them and hugs to all here.

An eagle perched overnight on Wallenda branches with very wet feathers. it appears to be the same one that was perched yesterday.

2 eagles fluffed up their nest. One gave the other a BONK!
Just like Decorah Mom does. Then they flew off

5 pm She returned with a fish
I wonder if this is the one we were calling Missy
Appears to be a 5 year old, dark spots on her head
and a little brown on tail

The young couple that has been frequenting the nest the last few days were rearranging the nest again today. They are sleeping together in the nest tree tonight. Here is a nice video of the two of them from 12/28. It gives a nice look at their markings. Both appear young. In this video, the male looks to me a lot like Romeo. Wouldn't it be something if it were one of his sons? A 2013 hatch? Samson? Video courtesy of Liznm.

The male has the large dark spot on the back of his head. He visited this afternoon. Here are some pics of him.

thank you Nadia,

I am wondering if this pair had started nesting not far away and lost their nest in a storm.

I heard vocals in distance every time I tuned in so I feel in my heart our loved pair are around but keep their distance. Some think they would fight to end for their nest but they are also very smart to know when they have to move on.

we may have bobbles here yet. and just maybe they will be grand kids of Romeo and Juliet. :15heartbeat:

Our young couple visited the nest again this evening to do some fluffing. They have not brought in nest materials....just rearranging what is there. Per AEF, no other eagles have been seen in the Hamlet since this pair arrived and this female was not among those that gave Romeo a hard time. Some eagles have been seen perching in the TT tree outside the Hamlet a little over a mile from the nest, but none of them have been identified as Romeo or Juliet. This tree was a favorite perching of theirs. One of our new eagles has what looks like a small brood patch.

547pm - Our young couple fluffing the nest. Male on the right.

613pm - Male with possible brood pouch. Both eagles planned to sleep in the tree again tonight, but the female got spooked out of the tree by a possible owl and the male followed after her.

Beautiful colorful dawn!
Dec 31, 2018 fawggy

jd_AEF (Moderator):
3 am no eagles are seen in the nest tree.

6:49 am Eagle arrives at nest, the one with the dark spot on head
6:55 am Second eagle arrives and they sing a lovely dawn song together. I have heard mated pairs sing this dawn song often

I wanted to get one eagle with that pink dawn behind it, but couldnt - and no DVR

:newyear8: Have a safe New year!
