:15heartbeat: Unfortunately Ian will be a cat4 @ landfall and that landfall is now projected to be at the juncture of Lee and Charlotte counties. Harriet and M15's nest is in the town of North Fort Meyers that is in the northern most portion of Lee County whose northern boundary is Charlotte County. Also, CROW is on Sanibel Island near Fort Meyers and I'm sure they already evacuated their wildlife patients and students.

Ian is supposed to be strong. I am sure H & M know what to do, but I fear for the nest.

:15heartbeat: Update from SWFLEC with photo:

Southwest Florida Eagle Cam
Favorites · 8m ·
The nest tree is still standing but unfortunately the actual nest & cameras are no longer. Waiting for the Eagles to return and hopefully rebuild. We will update everyone when we know more.

:eggthumb: Latest update (It was initially reported the nest tree cam was gone, however when they looked at photos they realized that might not be correct.):

Sep 29, 6:53 PM
Essec09 (Admin): UPDATE for 9/29/2022 7:35pm: We are happy to share that all cameras are accounted for - Camera 1 (nest tree), Camera 2 and Camera 3 (pond cam). Unfortunately, the tree that Camera 3 was installed (pond cam) fell. The camera is still attached and appears to not have any obvious damage. There are a few others trees down near the pond. There was some damage to the storage barns (roofs, doors and they took in lots of water).

:15heartbeat: They are waiting for power to be restored. Hoping the cams will work once power restored.

Ian passed through the Fort Myers area on September 28. The strong category 4 hurricane caused major damage (both wind and flooding) in the area. Power is still out at SWFEC. The cameras and PTZs are offline.

:7val: They are safe and sound!!

Essec09 (Admin): Morning all. SWFEC's forum was closed to new topics and replies when they were dealing with the spam. Until it is open, please check "SWFEC SEASON 11 - October 1, 2022" topic for updates. There is only one update at this time - but a good one. Harriet and M15 were spotted in the nest tree this morning - October 1.

I cried when I read this earlier. BIG thanks to Desiree (sp?) for a confirming photo a bit before 6 this morning.

:15heartbeat: Jane, I cried while I was posting the above, I was that scared for them and just overcome. What I really want to know and hate that it comes under "you never will" is Harriet and M15 where inthehell did you go...

:15heartbeat: Unfortunately, North Fort Meyers is in Lee County and borders Charlotte County to it's north, so it could be "quite sometime" before power is restored to the nest area. Even when power is restored to these areas, not all businesses and homes will be able to hook up as many have structural damage and will have to be inspected before doing so. Excerpt from Fox Weather:

"Restoration to all households is expected to take weeks or even months to complete in the hardest-hit zones. Infrastructure in some areas of Lee and Charlotte counties will need to be rebuilt from the ground up."

:15heartbeat: Wskrsnwings can only do live from FB as she does not have wifi for now at home. She found M in the nest tree and points out where the nest was, etc. She has been coming daily for years to record this nest and you can hear the emotion in her voice at times. I cried with and for her. The video is about 4 and 1/2 minutes long.

M15 and the nest tree with Vicki once again.

My heart breaks for Wskrsnwings too. She has been a constant, reporting on this nest since I became aware of it. While we are lamenting, H & M know just what to do and are busy preparing their nursery for new life. :15heartbeat:
