:15heartbeat: Harriet Is on the nest tree with E19 and E20. M15 is sleeping away from the nest tree tonight. There was an unfortunate incident with a piece of fishing line and hook that is partly solved, but remains an issue for E20 for now. See report from Essec09:

Essec09: Evening all. As most are aware, the last fish that was brought to the nest apparently had a hook and short line attached. E20 claimed the fish and during an attempted steal the hook went into the left foot of E19. The two juvies became entangled and the line was attached to E20 also.

Apr 1, 8:14 PM
Essec09: After a few tussles on the nest where E20 moved to the west side of the nest, E19 began working on the hook. Around 19:24:19pm E19 managed to pull the hook out. E20 then flew to the attic where the hook/line was seen dangling from what appeared to be the foot, since when the foot moved, so did the hook.

Apr 1, 8:14 PM
Essec09: It is possible the line will fall off or E20 will pull the line off with beak like E19 did. If the hook attached to something E20 might be able to pull free. The camera owners are contacting CROW to let them know of the concern. But as I’m sure you know there isn’t much that can be done for a flighted bird, unless it is grounded. We all hope E20 will manage to lose the line/hook soon (if they haven’t already).

Apr 1, 8:14 PM
Essec09: Thank you for your concern.

dadsjazz (Admin): At 6:57am there were good views of E20's feet and no fishing line issues were seen. Both Es have been out exploring the area.

:15heartbeat: Incredible footage to see M15 testing the racoon's ability to fight back beginning at 16:23 on pond cam. They say M15 brought prey to the pond, I assume he drug it there and they saw, don't see him flying with this one. Couldn't find M15 coming in with it. Perhaps they were using their cam we don't see.

dadsjazz (Admin): At 4:18pm M15 appeared to have brought prey to the pond. It was observed to be a raccoon, alive but in distress and slow to respond. One of the Juveniles came to watch M15. The proper people have been notified and efforts are being made to get the raccoon.
Apr 13, 5:51 PM
dadsjazz (Admin): UPDATE on the raccoon: Mission accomplished, we just don't know what the issue is with it yet.

Edit to add: Video of incident by Lady Hawk.

"SWFL Eagles ~ M15 Brings A LIVE Raccoon To Pond In Distress! WARNING Viewer Discretion 4.13.22"

:15heartbeat: Both say that M15 brought the raccoon, but I wonder if the raccoon was there and M15 saw it and came or possibly drug it a very, very, short distance. M15 was definitely...poking the bear! Also, both E19 and E20 may have been there as when the truck comes down the road and I assume someone got out, it flushed out 3 eagles at 17:23 that you see fly across the pond to the safety of the trees. This is the 2nd raccoon incident as I remember a raccoon paw was brought to the nest. I think they are looking for poisoning or maybe disease. While rabies can not hurt the eagles, it certainly could the horses, humans or other mammals in the area.

:15heartbeat: From SWFL FB:

Southwest Florida Eagle Cam
Favorites · 3 hrs ·
On Wednesday, the cams found M & the eaglets on the bank of the pond with a racoon that looked to be dead/sickly. With no visible wounds, a possible cause was rodenticide which could be deadly to the eagles if they consumed.
Many thanks to the quick action of the Wildlife Center of Southwest Florida, the racoon was removed and taken in for evaluation and care. We still await an update on the condition but hope this scare was out of an abundance of caution and not necessity.

:eggthumb: The photographer did respond on FB that the photo is of Harriet. She also, answered a question about the raccoon someone had posed. Said it was a young male with a fractured pelvis and no toxins found.

:loveheart2: Both are sleeping in the nest this eve. It's kind of odd as they were roosted above on their usual limbs for the overnight earlier.
