Welcome to the 2022-2024 Nesting season.
Featuring M15 and Harriet!!
First egg laid last season on November 20, 2021

On September 28, 2022 Hurricane Ian decimated the Fort Myers area, destroying Harriet and M15's nest.
When the weather cleared, we witnessed the eagles reconstruct their nest in the same tree.
They knew just what to do to prepare for eggs.

These photos to help ID Harriet and M15 were posted on Facebook. I do not have the photographer or author.

The 22-23 nesting season was greatly impacted by Hurricane Ian which hit the Fort Myers area on September 28. The nest was destroyed, but the "real estate" tree remained standing. On October 3 Vickie (Wskrsnwing) visited the property and took video (link included below) M15 and Harriet never missed a beat and immediately began reconstructing the nest to prepare for the soon approaching nesting season.

Below are a few quotes provided by SWINWK. Thanks so much for your devoted documentation, Jean. :loveheart2:

The nest tree is still standing but unfortunately the actual nest & cameras are no longer. Waiting for the Eagles to return and hopefully rebuild. We will update everyone when we know more.

Essec09 (Admin): UPDATE for 9/29/2022 7:35pm: We are happy to share that all cameras are accounted for - Camera 1 (nest tree), Camera 2 and Camera 3 (pond cam). Unfortunately, the tree that Camera 3 was installed (pond cam) fell. The camera is still attached and appears to not have any obvious damage. There are a few others trees down near the pond. There was some damage to the storage barns (roofs, doors and they took in lots of water).

:15heartbeat: Wskrsnwings can only do live from FB as she does not have wifi for now at home. She found M in the nest tree and points out where the nest was, etc. She has been coming daily for years to record this nest and you can hear the emotion in her voice at times. I cried with and for her. The video is about 4 and 1/2 minutes long.

M15 and the nest tree with Vicki once again.

:mooncat: Both are on the attic branch right now. I saw them earlier today a couple times. Once Harriet with a huge fish that M15 kept getting closer and closer to glean the scraps from the nest floor till he finally reached in and tried to take a bite while she was eating and it was grasped in her talons. She took a little snip at him and that was that. :teehee:

:mooncat: Both on the attic again tonight. I did not catch them home today on the nest.

Forgot to exit and have heard Harriet call out 4 times since above, but can not tell what she is reacting to. Unfortunately cam 1 is on the empty nest instead of the closeup we sometimes see of them on the attic.

Great 1 minute video by Gracie Shepard of impatient M15 shoving Harriet twice out of his way just as a human would do:

"Move, Woman!"

 That was funny! Also a good opportunity to see size difference.

:mooncat: Harriet was on the nest just before dark and remained on there, but she has gone to the attic branch to join M15 within the last hour.

:mooncat: Some nestorations by Harriet and M15 before dark, then he went to the attic and she remained on the nest.

:mooncat: Interestingly, both Harriet and M15 are on the nest tonight. There is a tropical storm warning here. Winds are expected to be 10-20 with gusts of 30. A little rain. No threat of tornados.

:mooncat: Harriet and M15 did remain on the nest through the night and both are okay and the nest is intact.

:mooncat: Harriet and M15 started out the night on the attic, but for some reason decided to fly up to the upper right of the tree. They are very hard to see unless you got back to when they flew up.

:mooncat: I saw Harriet come screeching in for her squirrel gift from M15 today and apparently he brought her a fish that I missed. She started out on the nest tonight, but has since joined M15 on the attic.

:mooncat: Both were in and out today, but I did not catch any meals. For now, Harriet and M15 are on the attic.
