yes, there is plenty of black, in the same places as the little guy. The parent is covering up the one in trouble whilst it is still on its back :sum7: :girlsad3:

and she didn't get any food at all. Apparently she was rescued and rehydrated earlier today and she revived, but she went downhill again during the day. Amherst says (on FB) that they are watching her closely, but it will be dark there soon, so I hope they see she is in trouble ASAP.

WOW! Mass. is having a hard time it seems. RIP little guy.
On a up note tho TUFT has posted on the chick from Monarch/Springfield.

May 15:The Peregrine falcon chick that was brought into Tufts Wildlife Clinic yesterday from Springfield is resting comfortably in a warm incubator. The bird is receiving supplemental fluids and food, and our staff is continuing to closely monitor its status and progress. Please continue to check our Facebook page for updates instead of calling the clinic directly. Our staff is extremely busy caring for all the patients at the clinic. We appreciate your help and understanding.

Good grief...I posted on their FB page about Avian Parasites...I guess I shouldn't assume a vet would know about that. If the others have black on them too, then its probably only a matter of time before they end up like #3 without more aggressive intervention....

well, good grief again...I just went to see if they had posted anything else on their FB page or if they had answered my questions..It seems they are "back peddling now" and have made the obligatory "these are wild animals....and intervention isn't always appropriate...blah, blah, blah" statement...where as before they stated they would intervene again if necessary because PeFa's are still considered endangered in Mass..grrrrrrrrrr...it seems to me (now) that they are preparing the viewers for a possible "hands off" policy...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, again..

Thanks, Bev, for your concern about these little ones.
I was unable to check the DuBois cam today for fear of what I might see. :girlsad3:

On a happier note, I am a big fan of Radisson and am looking forward to seeing
her raise her chicks again this year. To me, Radisson and also Durand are very special! :girlluv: :girlluv:

Thanks Bev...I hope these two make it because I don't think they are gonna intervene...when I opened the cam, chicks were separated. the chick on the left was on its back...parent returns, notices the separated chicks and moves the chick on the left and briefly broods. After the vid, parent leaves this chick in favor of the other and broods...left chick is still on its back with parent sitting next to it. It eventually is able to right itself and just sits there...eyes closed, heavy breathing. Still ignored by the parent..the baby eventually is able to crawl under parent.

I can already see the black forming on both chicks. I just hope they are strong enough to handle this.

that is why I am hoping they band. Because at banding they can treat and are obligated to do so.
So you know if they do SGB

I just keep remembering our baby at Indy that year that we thought would not make it. and it did.

Yes, they band here...at least they did last year...its a roof top nest with fairly easy access. the Back panel of the box opens...

We've got a while to go before banding..hope the chicks can last that long...I still have those horrible pictures of the blackdog chicks in my mind. 2 chicks died of these parasites..we begged and begged and begged RRP to intervene. They eventually did and the 3rd chick was so covered with parasites and encrusted in dried blood and dead skin/feathers, they said it was disgusting..as soon as it was treated..miraculous recovery!!

Du Bois

I am so elated to today to watch here. I remembered U of A nest 2 years ago when our chicks were so so sick
Gord said to watch 2 things:1. Are they eating well and swallowing
2. watch their poop, if they are pooping on each other rather than off to side or out , trouble
he also said to watch feathers and they are looking , not matted but fluffy

So today I have small video:
you can see poop out to side, eating and swallowing well and very energetic. They look so much better. and they both did get a good feed

so we will continue to keep close watch

but I think at banding these guys need dusted and this box needs disinfecting. Gord did that at banding that year if you remember. New gravel , the whole nine yards. But I cannot tell them what to do. so hopefully someone there will suggest that.

look at these crops

video of partial feed but I watched whole feed .
