I wish we knew what they were doing. I'm so impressed that the falcons continue to show up. I know they have the ability to zoom this cam...how far in, I don't know...but, now would be a good time to zoom.

KF, I took a very similar picture at 2:22..so, who knows if there is an egg in there..

There could be a hatch here...

This falcon was there for a while...no body inside..

Image

He (?) then left and immediately she (?) came in from the other side and went straight in...

Image

So, was that dad guarding the new hatch or hatches? Or just guarding the eggs...

male does not incubate... :imbored:

our observer - marsz - wrote:

17:04 male female called not turned up she goes. After four minutes, she came back, she sat back
17:20 flown male, female immediately flew away, he sat in the doorway, pen scoured, did not sit on the eggs.
17:39 moved to the platform, after three minutes flew away.
17:50 female returned and sat on the eggs. For half an hour the eggs were discovered.
It was now the third "change" by the same scenario. The male just sitting near the socket, not incubated

I've been checking on this nest for days. I don't know what is going on. I've seen the male go in, but he just stands there. 1/2 the time I check, nobody is there. These guys should have chicks by now...part of me wonders if the original male has been replaced...another part of me wonders if something has happened. they were doing all that construction while the falcons were laying eggs...maybe it messed up everything with the eggs.

Anyway, they were panning today..

this is not the first time I have seen a falcon get hung up on this rope or whatever it is..I think the talons catch on it.

That darn thing isn't going to be good as far as little ones go.

I'll see if I can find the biologist I contacted there last year. Her name should be in the archives here.

Thanks. I couldn't seem to search the 2013 archives. I sent an email via the nature center site.

Bonnie, I found your posts in the archives. You did contact the Nature Center..

on May 28, you shared this email:

From Palmyra Cove Nature Park

    HI Bonnie,

The peregrines were banded on Monday, May 20. We have 3 females. Kathy will be banding the Burlington Bristol young on June 4.
    Kristina

So, Kristina must have been your contact at the Nature Center last year..you also exchanged emails with her about fledge..

I heard from Kristina:

Hi Bonnie,
We are still trying to figure out what is happening at the box.
I did want to let you know that the work on the bridge was finished well before Peregrine nesting (March 15) and NJDEP knew of the work and agreed to the March 15 time line.
I am still analyzing the video data to see if there is a new male, when the first nest was lost (the original 3 eggs should have hatched by the first week of May), if re-nesting occurred, etc. There is one egg in the nest at this time that the female is incubating. I'll let you know if I find anything new.
Thank you.
Kristina
