I feel very stupid; took pictures of the Springfield nest hatchings and never processed them. And now they are all deleted . . . :furious:
I looked at the recorded images (love that rewind feature) and I'm quite sure that the fourth eyas hatched late last evening or during the night (May 8).
At dawn this morning there was a feeding and I could see four chicks

Monarch Place Peregrine Falcon chick taken to Tufts veterinary school for evaluation
Thomas W. French, assistant director of the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife's Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program, holds one of four Peregrine Falcon eyases from the Monarch Place nest on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. French grew concerned after the young bird was seen on its back in the nest, struggling and unable to stand up. French said the bird may have been experiencing food stuck in its "crop" -- a pouch near a bird's throat that is part of the digestive system. The falcon was taken to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in North Grafton, Mass. for evaluation. French said the falcon would be returned to the nest if it is determined to be healthy.

Third chick at DuBois-Amherst Library was taken from the nest and brought over to a vet. It was struggling for a couple of days I read and could get upright.
A few minutes ago it was announced on their Facebook page that #3 didn't survive.

Also, it looks to me like one of the 2 remaining chicks is in trouble. He is struggling to move.
Has anyone else ever seen those black markings on other eyases?

OH NO!!

Black marks? Oh geeeeeez...sounds like parasites..everytime I check Du Bois, they are covered. If its parasites, they need to pull the other two and treat...not wait for it to get really bad...

I just saw the pic of Chick #3..the black could be dried blood from the (literally) blood sucking parasites..they can kill chicks. I hope if its parasites that the vet has enough sense to have the other 2 pulled and treated immediately...most chicks end up with feather mites/lice and can withstand them..but sometimes they are so over run with them, it can kill them.

Let's just hope whatever killed Chick #3 will dictate their next move with chicks 1 and 2..

Twitter pic of #3..poor little thing... :sorrow:
