We're going to the Virginia Wildlife Center Open House on Sunday and, weather permitting, we get to see critters outside including Buddy the Eagle! We're also going to the National Zoo to see Bao Bao and family! :sum9:

2 prey deliveries I caught today.

1) 9:43am - right after DC came back.

2) 1pm

Wow - she kept looking south when he was in box and she was on deck. And she was rapidly chupping like she does when there's another falcon around when she first arrived on deck.

I know she's sitting at the box now, but that was awfully strange. She was very distracted.

Here's a video of the 5:32pm bonding session.. listen to her & watch her...

This is almost what Durand and Spark did when the juvie landed on the ledge

Well that was long and noisy! Seems like he wants her in the nest box and she is reluctant. Wish I knew what she was saying but it was quite the discussion. Where is my egg? No eggs! I'm not laying any this year... Yes you will! No I won't! You can't make me! :egg11:

The more and more I watch this, I think both you and Kris are correct. She just doesn't really want to get in the box.

Remember that 1 late night that someone arrived on deck at 9 something? There was only 1 pic of what looked like 2 on deck at I think 9:17, then what looked like DC on top of cam 4. That happened on 3/26. I wonder if she did have an intruder at the box and that's why she's so on alert and is not spending very much time at the NB.

Weird.

Okay.. got to run to Costco... BBL

I'll leave the recorder on.

If you watch him, he also seems to be seeing something out beyond the nest area too. I think that whatever is happening is distressing her and possibly affecting her egg laying.

Wow Kris - I didn't even pay attention to him. I was more focused on her because of her tone.. he's totally watching something too.

I bet it was the yellow banded juvie. And my guess is it's a male, maybe even Baron. That would fit with the fact that both were about the same size. DC wants to get B in the box for a bonding session to cement bond. I think if it was another female, she would go after it, unless of course they are not seeing a juvie as a threat. But as Carly pointed out, there have been plenty of resident adult falcons displaced by a juvie.

Hard to say what's going on but they both seem on alert to me. If it's the juvie, it's awfully persistent! It's been chased and escorted out of town a couple times that we know of.

Just looking at stills from the strange 5:32 bonding session. I think I found something on one of the cams.. I don't think it is a cloud. This may have been what was upsetting or distracting Beauty and DC:
