Callie arrived to Hog Island from migration to join Steve this morning. Prior to this, she had actually arrived to the tip of the perch, her favorite spot per chat.

6:08 AM EDST Dory laid their 1st egg at the Boathouse nest of Dory and Skiff!

Dory finally laid their 2nd egg about 11:15 pm EDT on 5/7/23. It was about 5 days and 17 hours after the 1st egg laid. Some believe it was the rainy, nasty, weather and others that the island sea bird researchers are camping very near to the boat house and some believe both are reasons. Dory has always been anxious when people are nearby, but did show some improvement last season.

Egg 3 for Dory and Skiff at the Boat House nest today at 2:45 pm EDT! They were 1st time parents last season who successfully fledged 3 here!

A side note: While this cam does have a mic and we were told last season that it would be worked on and up, apparently that is not the case. It is an issue of privacy for the folks who use the dock and area and property owner/s have asked Explore that there be no mic. So, we will never hear the osprey's vocals and activities on this nest...

Skipper of the Boat House nest of Dory and Skiff. Skipper was predated a little before 1:00 am on the nest by a GHO, then the owl flew off with. Skipper was one of the 3 eggs that were laid this season. Skipper was the 1st hatch and was named immediately after hatching. Then the cam went down for several days and when it came back, only Skipper and Dory and Skiff were present. Nobody knows what happened to the eggs or chicks if hatched or in my opinion if it was still Skipper we were seeing for sure or another hatch that was not seen on cam. I checked on this nest 1-2 times daily even though I no longer posted. I saw Skipper last night after dark lying on the nest sleeping. The angle of the cam did not happen to show at that time if Dory was on the perch as she usually is during the night and I am unsure if she was present when the GHO came. Following is a video of Skipper by Regina Hornig of Skipper wingercising last evening. Skipper was only days from fledging. There is no sound with the video. We were told last season that we would have sound this season, however the site owner does not want sound for privacy reasons of people who use the dock and those that live nearby. So, will never have sound with this cam site unfortunately. I think some of the bird researchers camped very near this nest this season.

Oh gosh, so sorry to hear this. GHO are the top of the food chain and it is darn
sad they take some many little/teen chicks...

Damage to the Boathouse Nest Building (Dory and Skiff) and the Queen Mary Building (the building they recently raised the foundation of requiring a LOT of work) over by Steve's nest in recent storm this past week. From their FB:
