Dyfi, Wales: HOLY MULLETS!

This must be one the largest fish we've ever seen caught at this nest.
Looks like Idris has dropped it a couple of times too.
Not surprised. The boy can't half catch whoppers;
that mullet must weight at least as much as him?

Dyfi, Wales: WE HAVE A BOY AND A GIRL!

Bobby Mawr is a boy, ring number Blue 490, and he weighs 1600g.
We've called him DYSYNNI.

Bobby Bach is a girl, ring number Blue 491 and she weighs 1690g.
We've named her YSTWYTH.

Despite being four days younger, Ystwyth already weighs 90g
(+6%) more than her brother - which is exactly what you'd expect.

Thank you for all your name suggestions and thanks to Tony Cross for another professional ringing operation.

A blog, a Posh Pete video and the ringing video will be coming your way in the coming days,

but for now, say 'Hello' to Dysynni (left) and his 'big' younger sister Ystwyth

Loch of the Lowes, Scotland

Meet our newly ringed osprey chicks LR1 and LR2

Tuesday dawned bright and sunny, with little to no wind – the perfect day to ring our two rapidly growing chicks.

The first chick to hatch (36 days old on the day of ringing)
and a visibly larger youngster was ringed as Blue LR1 and sexed as a female osprey,
with a wing measurement of 337mm and weight 1.51kg.

The second chick (33 days old) was ringed as Blue LR2,
sexed as a male and with a wing measurement of 276mm and weight 1.4kg.

Wonderful News from Dyfi, Wales:

http://www.dyfiospreyproject.com/blog/e ... ng-england

Quote:
BREAKING NEWS:
Look at these two.... These are Merin's first ever chicks, he's breeding in The Lake District, Cumbria!
He has two girls and they were ringed last week: Blue 460 and 461.
Merin (2015 bird) was first spotted back in Denmark trying to breed (unsuccessfully)
but is now happily breeding in England – on a natural, osprey-built nest.
With Aeron and Tegid breeding in north Wales, this means that
Monty and Glesni have now had FOUR birds return and successfully breed in THREE different countries.
Clarach bred in Aberfoyle, Scotland and may still be there.

What a legacy. A zillion thanks to Peter Davies who ringed Merin's chicks
and sent us all this information. We are absolutely euphoric

Loch of the Lowes, Scotland: First Osprey Chick LR1 Fledges

Quote:
We have lift off!

It has been an exciting time here at Loch of the Lowes, watching our two Osprey chicks hatch
and grow over the last couple of months. From watching them start to flap their wings,
learn to feed themselves in the nest and yesterday, 9th July, our first chick,
female LR1 took her maiden flight for the first time!

After a morning of intense flapping by both young osplets, and showing off her ‘helicoptering skills’
to NC0, LR1 too the leap at 17:01. Her departure from the nest gave her brother LR2 a bit of a fright,
who ‘pancaked in defense’, but it wasn’t long before she returned to the nest a minute later
with a slightly ungainly landing, closely followed by her mum who landed on top of the camera.
