Braveheart from AEF. Hatched in 1988, she went on to help repopulate Bald Eagles on the Catalina Islands from the captive breeding program at the San Francisco Zoo. She arrived with her mate Honor in 2007 to AEF.

Sad news to report.
AEF mourns the loss of one of our bald eagle’s Braveheart, she suddenly began having seizures. Medications, unfortunately, did not help Braveheart’s condition and she passed moments later surrounded by our staff.
Results from the necropsy showed that she passed away from cardiac valvular disease. Having a veterinarian on staff and our partnership with the UT School of Veterinary Medicine gives us access to cutting edge resources, but there is no cure for many age-related aliments.
Braveheart arrived at AEF in 2007 with her mate, Honor. This pair was a part of a captive breeding program at the San Francisco Zoo that helped to repopulate bald eagles on the Catalina Islands in California.
Braveheart and Honor hatched and raised nine eaglets during their time with us and made a great contribution to the wild bald eagle population. Braveheart also served as an ambassador for her species during her brief time on our live cams, not only did she help to inspire those who cared for her daily but - more importantly - she helped to educate a community. AEF staff and volunteers will miss Braveheart.
Her mate, Honor, is now residing at Eagle Mountain Sanctuary in the male aviary.
