:newegg: :newegg: Mrs. Boat House laid egg #2 this morning at 5:54. While she has incubated this egg some, she is off of it now. The first egg was incubated by her for a few hours, then it was covered/buried. Will have to see how she does with this one. She does not care for the boaters as she always leaves the nest when she sees them approaching the dock.

Topeka was banded today...if anybody finds the Band #, can you post here...Chick is a male.

Also, Jackson County was banded today. When they went to band, they found only 1 chick (male). No sign of the other chick... :girlsad3: They are not sure what happened. they still have been unable to ID the new male.

Also from Facebook. There are 2 eggs at Toronto Sheraton.

another chick passes during g night at GSB. just heartbreaking.

she just does not get how to feed. she tries, If Newman would stick around and feed and show her, . I watched a feed this morning and if baby got a bite it was lucky. it was up and ready and female went through som e paces of feeding but just cannot get it in and eats the fleshy pieces she sh e should give to baby.

I pray this one can survive and that female will get it.

I am busy teaching now so I cannot watch

Very sad to report that Red collided with the Rachel Carson Building yesterday and unfortunately did not survive. Falconwire comments posted under thread.

How about some "feel good" news this morning....though its a tad bitter sweet.

From David G on Facebook Regarding the Lowell Nest:

Just received the awesome news from my friend Ursula Goodine that three chicks have been fostered into the UMass Lowell nestbox. The eggs that they had laid were not going to hatch so this is a total surprise. Scrolling back four hours or so you can see the chicks being put in the box and the super surprised reaction of Mom finding them. Not sure where these chicks came from or why they were displaced but will pass on any more info I get ASAP.

[and later]

These chicks were removed from the top of a hanger door at the Westover AFB. This is not the first time that they have nested there. We fostered one of those chicks a few years ago in our Allston, Mass box. The other two went to Lawrence if I remember correctly. There are future plans to have a nestbox installed in a safer place but as we all know putting a box in does not assure that they will use it, only time will tell. While it is great that Lowell Mom and Dad have taken these new chicks under their wings we are grieving a bit about the parents that are now once again without their babies.
